#InCaseYouMissedIt: Rafael Jose de Brito wins triple crown of World Championship, Rookie of the Year and World Finals event title

Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

By Darci Miller

The world title race came down to the final ride of the 2023 World Finals, and wow, did Rafael Jose de Brito deliver in Fort Worth. Plus, Ridin’ Solo makes some history of his own, Flint Rasmussen takes his final bow, and more. Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

At the 2023 PBR World Finals…

DAY 4

The bulls absolutely dominated Round 4 in Fort Worth, allowing just three qualified rides.

Two of those rides came from first-year Brazilians Wingson Henrique da Silva and Joao Lucas Campos, who tied for the round win.

Ridin’ Solo knows how to perform when the lights are the brightest! The 2022 YETI World Champion Bull took sole possession of the No. 1 spot in the standings with a massive out in Round 4.

DAY 5

Two-time World Champion Jose Vitor Leme finally got on the board in Round 5, changing the complexion of the world title race.

Andrew Alvidrez won Round 5, however, with a 91.5-point ride, the highest score of the World Finals.

A couple of new Carolina Cowboys draftees got things started with early rides in Round 5, fueling excitement for the upcoming PBR Team Series season.

DAY 6

Rafael Jose de Brito took the lead in the World Finals aggregate in Round 6, watched eagerly – and nervously – by stock contractors and host family Katie Perschbacher and Laramie Wilson.

Dener Barbosa won Round 6, breaking into the Top 5 in the race for the gold buckle…

and selected a familiar foe in I’m Legit Too for Round 7.

DAY 7

Brito was simply unstoppable in Fort Worth, as he became the first rider ever to win the World Championship, Rookie of the Year, and World Finals event title in one fell swoop.

Ridin’ Solo, meanwhile, swept the bovine honors, taking home his second consecutive gold buckle as well as the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Finals award.

The 2023 PBR World Finals was the last dance on the dirt for Flint Rasmussen, as the legend took his final bow on Championship Sunday.

Elsewhere in Fort Worth…

The 2023 PBR Team Series Draft concluded with the Carolina Cowboys taking Sage Kimzey and Josh Frost with picks No. 1 and No. 2.

The PBR paid tribute to photographer Chris Elise, who passed away last weekend.

Martha Angelone earned the 2023 Women’s Rodeo World Championship All-Around title

while Kelsie Domer, Jackie Crawford and Cheyenne Wimberley joined her as event champions.
