PUEBLO, Colo. – Since 2022, when the PBR Camping World Team Series launched, the PBR event at Cheyenne Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyoming, has been a Teams event.
But that changes on July 22-23 with the Camping World Last Cowboy Standing at Cheyenne Frontier Days. The Challenger Series event (airing both nights at 10 p.m. ET on RidePass on Pluto TV) brings the old-school, individual format of bull riding back to the Daddy of ‘em All.
While it’s a change from the last few years, the event will be similar to those the PBR held in Cheyenne in the past. There were Touring Pro Division events there in 2005-2010 and again in 2018. In 2019 and 2021, the Cheyenne event joined the Unleash The Beast slate, becoming a PBR Major and one of the most prestigious on the premier series calendar.
This year’s event will be almost as well-attended as a premier series event. Each PBR Teams squad could invite up to three riders to compete, and nine of last season’s Top 15 riders are in the draw.
No. 1 Cassio Dias vs. Homeboy No. 2 John Crimber vs. I’m a Hostage No. 3 Eduardo Aparecido vs. Frosty No. 5 Alan de Souza vs. Red Dirt No. 8 Brady Fielder vs. Preston’s Pistol No. 10 Koltin Hevalow vs. Rafter P Construction’s Gold Chain No. 11 Thiago Salgado vs. Commander No. 13 Joao Ricardo Vieira vs. Hi Times Butter Bean No. 15 Daylon Swearingen vs. Dangerous Medicine

The last two winners in Cheyenne – Jose Vitor Leme (2021) and Chase Outlaw (2019) will not be competing. But Boudreaux Campbell, who placed second in Cheyenne in 2021 thanks to a monster ride on Woopaa, is in the draw and looking to continue his successes there.
Cheyenne is one of the most historic rodeos in the country, and whenever the PBR is in town, there are sure to be fireworks!
Look back on some of the incredible moments Cheyenne has seen in the past, and don’t forget to tune in to this year’s action!
Outlaw wins Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne (7/24/19)
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Hollywood could not have written a better script.
One year ago here in Cheyenne, Chase Outlaw was pulled down on a bull named War Cloud (Peggy VanCleve), breaking 30 bones in his face, requiring emergency surgery to insert 11 plates and 68 screws. Tonight, in front of a raucous crowd at Cheyenne Frontier Days, he was the Last Cowboy Standing, winning the prestigious PBR major, taking home a paycheck of $156,856.41, and 875 world points.
The Arkansas cowboy who was advised by some to find another profession is now the No.1 bull rider in the world.
“What doesn’t break you will build you, and I owe it all to the man upstairs,” Outlaw said. “He’s not done with me.”
Outlaw: 'This has been harder for my family than it is for me' (7/24/19)
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Brittany Outlaw was sitting inside Cheyenne Regional Medical Center on July 23, 2018, when Dr. William Wyatt walked into the hospital room and explained to her, as well as Chase Outlaw’s wife, Nicole, that her brother was getting rushed into emergency facial reconstructive surgery.
Brittany shook her head and tried to comprehend what Dr. Wyatt was trying to say.
“I am going to have to see a picture because I don’t understand what it is you are talking about,” Brittany recalled. “I am going to need to see a picture.”
Wyatt then pulled up the X-ray.
Her brother’s face was a mangled and marred mess, 30 bones shattered courtesy of War Cloud during the PBR’s Touring Pro Division event at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
“Whenever he showed the X-rays and started showing and pointing to where all the bones in his face were broken, we were speechless,” Brittany said late Tuesday night on the dirt at Cheyenne Frontier Days, tears rolling down her face.
“Me and Nicole thought, ‘What is really going on right now?’”
Next was a 12-hour emergency surgery that featured 68 screws, 11 plates and four pieces of surgical mesh to reconstruct Chase's face.
On the exact 1 year anniversary of Chase Outlaw’s life-altering wreck, Brittany was once again speechless.
Leme wins Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne (7/27/21)
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Champion Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil) went 5-for-5 over two days at PBR’s Last Cowboy Standing in Cheyenne, Wyoming, to win his first PBR Major, out-dueling Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) on a night that showcased one of the greatest displays of bull riding in the history of the sport.
The stars of the PBR put up eight rides of 90 points or more on the second night of the unique progressive elimination format under the lights at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Leme rode three bulls for 90 points or more and extended his world standings lead to 361.5 points over No. 2 Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil).
“This is my first major event (win) during the season,” Leme said. “For sure, I got a lot of important points today here. My next goal is to be a back-to-back World Champion. That’s one of my dreams, and I’ll ride for that.”
“I’ve watched every major in PBR, and this is the best one I’ve ever seen,” said two-time PBR World Champion Justin McBride. “Jose has been nothing short of phenomenal this entire event. He had every kind of bull thrown at him, and he’s handled every one with perfection.”
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Boudreaux Campbell glanced up at the big screens at Frontier Park Arena and looked on as 2020 World Champion Jose Vitor Leme posed for pictures on the dirt as the 2021 Last Cowboy Standing.
“I’m just taking it all in, man,” Campbell said. “You only get to live this life once, so you’d better enjoy every single minute of it. I was taking it all in, and the guy that beat me tonight is the best in the world. If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best. I came up a little short tonight, so I’m going to keep trying, keep giving it all my effort.
The pain and frustration were most certainly on Campbell’s face on Tuesday night.
An exhausted Campbell had dirt, sweat and defeat resting on his furrowed brow.
He knew just how close he had been to winning the most grueling event on the PBR schedule.
CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Reigning World Champion Jose Vitor Leme leaned back on a bench inside the locker room at Frontier Park Arena and let out a deep exhale.
Leme’s right ankle was still throbbing and most likely swelling up inside his Ariat cowboy boot after the world No. 1 bull rider put forth a herculean 5-for-5 performance to win Last Cowboy Standing at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
The 24-year-old had to conquer four bulls on Tuesday night to win his first career PBR Major, including his final two after Young Man’s Blues stepped on his previously broken right ankle from the season-opener in Ocala, Florida, in Round 3.
“Oh, this win is for sure harder than when I won the World Finals because you don’t ride one or two bulls today,” Leme said before pausing.
“How many bulls did I even get on today? Four? Yeah, and one yesterday. Normally I don’t do that. Normally nobody do that. When I practice at home, I practice on a lot of bulls, and maybe that helped me in this format. This time I drew good bulls, and I concentrated more on them to make my work, and I am now more experienced for this format.”
