#InCaseYouMissedIt: World title race nearing its climax at the PBR World Finals

Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

By Darci Miller

Have you been watching the 2024 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast? If not, what are you waiting for?! The four Elimination rounds wrapped up this weekend, and we’ve got a lot to break down. There were huge rides, there were historic buckoffs, and there was plenty of drama atop the world title race. Miss a moment of the action this weekend? Here’s what happened around the PBR.

At the 2024 PBR World Finals…

ELIMINATIONS ROUND 1

Eduardo Aparecido won the first round of competition, leapfrogging John Crimber and Dalton Kasel in the standings to claim the No. 2 rank.

No. 1 Cassio Dias, however, tied for second in Round 1 to retain his huge lead atop the standings

as he was living his childhood dream of competing at the World Finals.

Cool, calm, and collected – maybe even too calm? – No. 5 Alan de Souza finished sixth in Round 1 to keep pace in the world title race.

ELIMINATIONS ROUND 2

Dias kept extending his lead in the world title race in Round 2, this time finishing third in the round to improve to 2-for-2.

However, it was 19-year-old Nashville Stampede star Kaiden Loud that won the round with a huge 90-point ride to take the lead in the event aggregate.

On the bovine side of things, Cool Whip dispatched Boudreaux Campbell for his 41st consecutive buckoff – one short of Bushwacker’s legendary streak of 42.

ELIMINATIONS ROUND 3

Round 3 was the beginning of the John Crimber show. The 18-year-old phenom tied with Daylon Swearingen for the round win with the first qualified ride of his World Finals career

with his favorite college football player in attendance.

But don’t forget about Swearingen, who improved to 4-0 atop Hoka Hey as he returned to his World Champion form.

ELIMINATIONS ROUND 4

Crimber tied for yet another round win on the final day of Eliminations, bumping him up to second in the aggregate and closer to a world title.

With No. 1 Dias out due to injury on Sunday and questionable for the rest of the competition, the title race picture is now murkier than ever.

Cool Whip made bovine history on Sunday, bucking off Alex Cerqueira for his 42nd in a row, tying Bushwacker’s record that’s stood for more than a decade.

Five bull riders qualified for the Championship Rounds at AT&T Stadium on May 18-19 via their performance in Eliminations – one of them is seven-time PRCA world champion Sage Kimzey.

Meanwhile, in PBR Canada…

Gilmar Santana went 2-for-2 to win the Koye Larson Memorial PBR in Brooks, Alberta.

Cody Coverchuk furthered his grasp on the No. 1 rank in Canada with a win in Camrose, Alberta.

At the WCRA’s Rodeo Corpus Christi…

Barrel racer Stephanie Fryar was chasing the $1 million Triple Crown of Rodeo at Rodeo Corpus Christi.

She ultimately fell short, and new champions were crowned.

The top-finishing athletes not already drafted to a team qualified for the Free Riders and will compete in Kid Rock’s Rock N Rodeo this week. Let’s rock!
