Cody Coverchuk wins PBR Canada Touring Pro Division event in Camrose, Alberta

Cody Coverchuk won the 2024 Rose City Invitational in Camrose, Alberta.

By Kacie Albert

CAMROSE, Alta. – On Saturday night in Camrose, Alberta, Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) delivered a statement performance, going a perfect 2-for-2 inside Encana Arena to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division’s Rose City Invitational, furthering his grasp on the No. 1 rank in the national standings.

Coverchuk is chasing history this season, attempting to earn his third PBR Canada Championship and tie veteran Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most titles won by one rider.

In Round 1, Coverchuk delivered the fourth-best score as he covered Night Fury (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 84 points.

The reserved Saskatchewan man then faced Emerald Inn (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/B2 Braithwaite Ranches) in the championship round. Nodding with confidence, Coverchuk remained in perfect time with the animal athlete, reaching the requisite 8 with ease.

Marked an event-best 86.5 points, the score clinched the event win for Coverchuk.

The golden finish garnered the two-time PBR Canada Champion a crucial 119 national points. While he traveled to Camrose 96.5 points ahead, he now leads the No. 2 contender Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) by 131.5 national points.

Gardner prevented Coverchuk from increasing his lead further by finishing second at the Rose City Invitational, earning 84 national points.

The Prince of the Peace Country rode Bench Warrant (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 82.5 points in Round 1, before going to distance on Superstition (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Wilson Rodeo) for 86.5 points in the championship round.

As the only other rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta) was third, collecting 63 national points.

In the opening round, Hansen rode Twist of Something (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 80 points, the tenth-best score. He then climbed the leaderboard in the championship round as he outlasted Ain’t About Fame (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85 points.

Hansen rose from No. 14 to No. 9 in the standings. He is now 329.5 points behind No. 1 Coverchuk.

Ashton Sahli (Red Deer, Alberta) finished fourth courtesy of his Round 1-winning, 85-point ride on Unhappy Camper (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Two Bit Bucking Bulls).

Leaving Encana Arena with 49 national points, Sahli rose from No. 8 to No. 5 in the standings, inching within 300.5 points of the top spot.

Rounding out the Top 5, and tying for fifth, was Gilmar Santana (Leduc, Alberta) and Dixon Tattrie (Youngstown, Alberta).

Both riders delivered 84.5-points in Round 1 to earn 32 national points.

Santana bested Moonwalk (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) and Tattrie covered Black Jack (Skori Bucking Bulls).

In the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, Santana rose from No. 11 to No. 10, and Tattrie surged from unranked to No. 19.

In the bull pen, Grand Funk (Kinky Buckers) was crowned the Bull of the Event. Bucking in the championship round, the powerful animal athlete delivered an unmatched 44-point score for his 3.03-second buckoff of Santana.

The 2024 PBR Canada seasons continues May 18-19 in Waskesiu Lake, Saskatchewan. Action for the Touring Pro Division’s 8 Seconds at The Ridge at Elk Ridge Resort gets underway at 6:00pm CT on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday. May 19.
