Garrett Green wins PBR Canada Touring Pro Division event in St. Tite, Quebec to crack Top 10 in national title race

Cody Coverchuk finishes third to rise within 22.84 points of No. 1 Nick Tetz.

By Kacie Albert

ST. TITE, Quebec – This past weekend in St. Tite, Quebec, Albertan Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) went a perfect 2-for-2 inside Coors Original Arena to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division’s Festival Western St. Tite and crack the Top 10 in the heated 2023 national title battle.

Green first put points on the board in Round 1 when he covered Stutterin (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 81 points.

Positioned fourth on the leaderboard ahead of the second round, Green next took on Power Show (Equipe de Rodeo du Quebec). In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Green reached the requisite 8 atop the powerful animal athlete for a Round 2-best 85.5 points to cement the win.

The golden finish garnered Green a crucial 57 national points. With less than two months remaining before the 2023 PBR Canada National Finals in Edmonton, Alberta, Green cracked the Top 10 in the nation, rising from No. 12 to No. 7. He is now within 264.5 points of No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta).

Atop the standings, No. 2 Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) inched within 22.84 points of No. 1 Tetz, who did not compete as he was stateside riding for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams League, compliments of his third-place result which netted him 23 national points.

The two-time PBR Canada Champion went 1-for-2 at the Quebec event, topping Black Hair (CJ Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points in the opening round.

Coverchuk is chasing potential history this November. Should his momentum continue and he be crowned the 2023 PBR Canada Champion, Coverchuk would tie Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most national titles won by one rider with three.

Second was Callum Miller (Warwick, Queensland, Australia), who collected 36 national points.

Miller rode in seemingly unstoppable form in the opening round, delivering the high-marked ride of the event when he bested Great White (Black Creek Rodeo Company) for 88 points.

The Aussie, however, fell short of the win when he was upended by Twist Off (Black Creek Rodeo Company) in 4.94 seconds in Round 2.

Miller jumped six positions in the national standings, climbing inside the Top 20 as he was catapulted from No. 25 to No. 19.

Fourth was Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan).

The 2020 PBR Canada Champion earned 19 national points for his 84-point ride on Red Carpet (CJ Bucking Bulls) in the opening round.

Attempting to become the fourth multi-time PBR Canada Champion in history, Buttar rose from No. 4 to No. 3 in the nation. He is now 136 points back of No. 1 Tetz.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Roy.

Seeking his unprecedented fourth Championship, Roy’s 82.5-point ride on Back Cracker (CJ Bucking Bulls) earned him 18 national points.

The veteran contender remained No. 5 in the standings but is now 188 points behind the top spot.

In the bull pen, Rattle Bones (CJ Bucking Bulls) was unrivaled, crowned the Bull of the Event after posting a commanding 46 points in Round 1 for his 7.03 seconds of work against Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta).

The 2023 PBR Canada season continues with the seventh elite Cup Series, presented by Wrangler, event of the year Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, at Bonnetts Energy Centre. Action for the PBR Peace Country Invitational begins at 7:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, Sept. 30, and 2:00 p.m. MT on Sunday, Oct. 1.
