Jaxton Mortensen flawless in Oregon, winning Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s PBR Portland

Perfect 3-for-3 weekend highlights a momentum-shifting stop as Velocity Global points tighten the race toward Unleash The Beast qualification.

By JaLea Blasingame

PORTLAND, Ore. – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) returned to Portland, Oregon, Jaxton Mortensen (Chino Valley, Arizona) was unstoppable over the course of the two-day event, securing his first event win of the 2026 season.

The 21-year-old first put himself on the leaderboard in Round 1 after being paired with Packing A Pistol for an impressive 86.40 points, and an opening round win.

Keeping the same momentum going as he entered Saturday night’s second round aboard Nigel’s Pet, he burst from the chutes in complete control for an 87.80-point score. In the same fashion as the opening round in Rip City, Mortensen topped the Round 2 leaderboard.

Heading into the championship round, Mortensen was laser-focused to make the eight aboard Speed Dial. As Oregon fans cheered, he once again, made the whistle, scoring 88.50 points, marking the highest score of the weekend to secure the event win.

For his perfect 3-for-3 weekend, Mortensen netted 164 Velocity Global points and moved to No. 16 in the Velocity standings.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) claimed second for the weekend, falling just short of a perfect weekend after going 2-for-3.

Mitchell was paired with Lift Me Up in Round 1, where the animal athlete was no match for him, scoring 86.10 points, placing second in the round.

Early on Saturday he was paired with Geronimo turning in an impressive 84.30-point ride, moving into the championship round.

Entering the final round for the weekend, the 28-year-old launched from the chutes aboard Hell Ya Roscoe. Unfortunately, the muscular bovine won the match-up bucking Mitchell off at 4.02 seconds.

For his efforts, he collected 84 Velocity Global points and now sits in the No. 24 spot in the Velocity standings.

Dione de Souza Ribeiro (Nova Bandeirantes, Brazil) came in third.

After conquering his Round 1 matchup against Wiley, turning in an 85.90-point ride, Ribeiro secured third place for the opening round on Friday.

With a determined look, the 36-year-old cowboy was paired with Slim Shady as he entered Round 2. Unfortunately, the powerful bovine athlete won this matchup, throwing Ribeiro to the dirt after a mere 3.34 seconds.

Despite his best efforts as the weekend rolled to a close in the final round, Tiny Tornado won their championship matchup, bucking him off after 3.5 seconds.

For his 2-for-3 third-place finish, Ribeiro earned 53 Velocity Global points and sits at No. 30 in the standings.

Fellow Brazilian cowboy Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil) finished fourth for the weekend in Portland.

In Round 1, he was paired with Ruckus, where to the Oregon crowd’s dismay, the athletic animal won the match up throwing Junior to the dirt after 4.71 seconds.

In the next round on Saturday evening, he was paired with Smoke Show, with a determined look, he burst from the chutes, making the eight for 85.60 points.

Setting his sights towards the championship round, he geared up for his match with Pretty Boy. Unfortunately, his bovine partner won, bucking him off at 3.59 seconds.

Now sitting at No. 3 in the standings, Junior collected 39 Velocity Global points.

Rounding out the Top 5 at the Moda Center was Lane Vaughan (Klamath Falls, Oregon) and Billy Quillan (Fallon, Nevada) in a tie.

In Round 1, Vaughan launched from the chutes aboard Unhinged. To Oregon fans’ dismay, he hit the dirt early, at 3.61 seconds. Quillan, however, started the weekend in Portland on a high note, conquering his Round 1 matchup against Fireball for 85.20 points.

Vaughan, the home state cowboy, was then paired with Packing A Pistol for Round 2, where to the fans delight, the bull was no match for the talented 20-year-old cowboy. Scoring 85.20 points, Vaughan soared into the final round of the weekend.

Quillan did not fare as well in Round 2, the Silver State cowboy was paired with Wound Up, where despite his best efforts, he came down after a mere 2.88 seconds.

Focused on keeping the momentum he had earlier in the night going, Vaughan was paired with Pickle Brush in the championship round. Clinging to his bovine partner, he fell short – hitting the dirt after 2.37 seconds.

Determined to turn his luck around in the championship round, 28-year-old Quillan, climbed aboard Big Cheif. Just like Vaughan’s matchup, the animal athlete won, throwing him off at 4.16 seconds.

Despite the championship round buck off for both athletes, Vaughan left the Moda Center with 31.5 Velocity Global points and is at No. 12 in the standings while Quillan earned 30.5 Velocity Global points, and now sits at No. 81 in the standings

The talented bull riders of the PWVT will next head to North Charleston, South Carolina, for GOVX PBR North Charleston at North Charleston Coliseum Jan. 9-10. In a double-up weekend, the PWVT will also be in Spokane, Washington, for PBR Spokane at Numerica Veterans Arena on Jan. 9-10.
