Carolina Cowboys prevail in overtime, then down Missouri Thunder in championship game to win first PBR Teams League title

Texas Rattlers finish third, Arizona Ridge Riders fourth.

By Taylor Riemersma

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A year removed from being the bridesmaid at T-Mobile Arena, the Carolina Cowboys earned their first title in franchise history, going on a 4-for-4 game run over the course of the PBR Teams Championship, defeating the Missouri Thunder 242.5-177.75 in the final game. Carolina fell just short of the title in 2024 after falling to the Austin Gamblers in the title game.

In today’s Semifinal game against the Arizona Ridge Riders, with the score tied 174.5–174.5 after five frames, Clay Guiton knocked down the biggest ride of his career, scoring 88 points on Milestone, to win the first overtime game in Teams Championship history.

Carolina’s title game win over Missouri later in the afternoon marks the fourth different champion for the league that began in 2022.

In the title game, Carolina Head Coach Jerome Davis made a gutsy call in the bottom of the first, as he and Cooper Davis declined a re-ride option to accept a 68.25-point score aboard Snap Chatter. The call proved to be the difference maker in the 64.75-point victory. Adriano Salgado scored 87.5 points in Carolina’s second out against J Lady S. Clay Guiton then lasted eight on El Chapo for 86.75 points, capping a perfect 5-for-5 weekend.

Guiton, 20, was named PBR Camping World Teams Series Championship MVP, riding Ghost Face (83.75), Cherry Shot (87.5), Hoobastank (87.5), El Chapo, and Milestone (88).

Semifinal Game No. 1: David took down Goliath in the first semifinal matchup of the afternoon when the No. 7 Missouri Thunder edged out No. 3 Texas Rattlers 350-348 with every ride counting to the end. Missouri missed the mark in its first out with a buckoff, but Macaulie Leather came out next to ride Bex Red Eye for 88.75 points. In the third frame, the Thunder’s Maverick Smith put up 86.5 on Let Him Fly with Miguel de Jesus earning his first qualified ride in his last seven outs on Sizmagraf in the fourth. As the Rattlers and Thunder threw blows back and forth, it was Andrew Alvidrezin a must-ride situation who landed the winning punch with 87.5 points on Sweet Action, forcing another must-ride situation for Texas, which ended in a buckoff, sending Missouri to the Championship game.

Texas put up a fight with four straight rides out of the gate by Brady Fielder on American Made (89.5), Daniel Keepingagainst Landman (87.75), Qynn Andersen aboard Buffalo Heifer (87.25), and Claudio Montanha Jr. against Greasy Bend (83.5). The final ride needed by Winy dos Santos fell less than three-tenths of a second short, sending Texas to the third-place game.

Semifinal Game No. 2: Marking their second-straight appearance in the PBR Teams Championship Finals were the fifth-seeded Carolina Cowboys, upsetting the fourth-seeded Arizona Ridge Riders 262.75-174.75 in the league’s first one-out OT shootout. Cooper Davis, the 2016 World Champion, tallied the initial ride for Carolina with 87.25 points on Sunrise, followed by 87.5 more by Clay Guiton on Hoobastank. Having tied with Arizona, both squads got one tiebreaker ride to settle the score, and Clay Guiton bested Milestone for a game-winning, finals-advancing 88 points.

Arizona went toe-to-toe with the Cowboys as Everton Natan da Silva bested The Kraken for 86.5 points in the first out. Keyshawn Whitehorse was a temporary hero for Arizona in the fifth frame, earning 88.25 on Eyes On Me to force the tiebreaker showdown. Luciano De Castro had two more attempts in the final outs for the Ridge Riders with a re-ride awarded, but his 6.82 seconds fell just short.

Third Place Game: The Texas Rattlers took home third place, beating Arizona 261.5–145.75 with three rides by Brady Fielder on Dark Thoughts (88.25), Qynn Anderson against July (85.5), and Claudio Montanha Jr. aboard Let’s Roll(87.75). Arizona tallied a pair of rides by Everton Natan da Silva on Buck (57) and Eduardo Aparecido against Woody (88.75).
