ANAHEIM, Calif. — The smoking-hot Austin Gamblers (14-4) retained their spot atop the PBR Camping World Team Series Standings with their sixth-straight victory against the Oklahoma Wildcatters (7-11) to open up PBR Teams: Anaheim at Honda Center.
Both squads started out electric by riding two of the first three bulls they matched up against, led by Oklahoma’s Wingson Henrique da Silva (82) and Josh Frost (82.75) in the first two frames. Austin’s Sage Steele Kimzey (88.75) and Andrei Scoparo (77) put the Gamblers ahead by exactly one point after three frames. Despite an 85-point ride by Cort McFadden, Jose Vitor Leme put a stamp on the game with an 89.75 outing on Landman. With the game already clenched, Callum Miller rode the final bull, Lever Action, for 87.75 points.
The Missouri Thunder improved to 8-10 with a walk-off victory against the New York Mavericks 258.75-172.5, fueled by an 86.25-point ride by Boudreaux Campbell against UB Smooth, his first career walk-off victory. Missouri led early with an 86.25-point ride by Paulo Eduardo Rossetto out of the gate against Cracky Chan before New York’s Mason Taylor outlasted Red Light for 86.75 to take the advantage. Leonardo Castro tacked on to the lead with 85.75 aboard Primo in the fourth frame for New York. Maverick Smith took advantage of a re-ride attempt to tie the game at 172.5 each with an 86.25-point ride on Mo Money.
Early back-to-back rides by Thiago Salgado (84.25 on Whoa) and João Lucas Campos (84 on Ceaser) positioned Florida well, propelling the team to victory over the Carolina Cowboys 256.75-87.25. John Crimber closed the game out with 88.5 points atop Rafiki. The Freedom elevated themselves to 13-5 on the season as Carolina fell to 6-12. A late ride by Derek Kolbaba for 87.25 points wouldn’t be enough for the Cowboys.
One ride was the difference in a Texas Rattlers 85.25-0 shutout of the Nashville Stampede Friday night as Texas rose to 11-7, dropping Nashville to 6-12. Brady Fielder scored 85.25 with his 12th ride of the season, this time besting Cutting Edge Sugar Daddy in the first ride of the game. Austin Richardson rode Easy Labor for 78 points, but accepted a re-ride attempt that resulted in a buck off.
The Arizona Ridge Riders (13-5) went for a chance at perfection falling just short in the final ride against the Kansas City Outlaws (8-10). The Ridge Riders pioneered a win behind rides of Everton Natan da Silva (73.75), Murilo Henrique de Oliveira (86.5), Riquelme Santos (85), and Keyshawn Whitehorse (86.5). Kansas City had three qualified rides by Julio Cesar Marques (83.75), Dalton Krantz (86.5), and Heitor Santos Ferreira (85.75), but it ultimately proved not enough.
The second day of competition in Anaheim continues Saturday, September 6 at 6:45 p.m. PST at Honda Center.
