ANAHEIM, Calif. – The second night of competition on neutral dirt in Anaheim, California, was again dominated by the Austin Gamblers (15-4), who recorded their fifth four-ride effort of the season with a 343.25-84.5 win over the Kansas City Outlaws (8-10).
The Gamblers went 4-for-5 for the second-straight game to win their seventh consecutive game and remain atop the PBR Camping World Team Series standings heading into Sunday’s finale inside Honda Center.
Veteran Sage Steele Kimzey got the red-hot Gamblers off to a heated start Saturday night, going the distance for 86.25 points during the game’s opening out. The lead-off spark led to qualified rides by teammates Callum Miller (86.25), Dalton Kasel (85.25) and Lucas Divino (85.5) as the 2024 PBR Teams Champions showed up and showed out once again Saturday night.
Heitor Santos Ferreira provided the Outlaws’ lone conversion in the form of an 84.5-point dance with Dynamite during Kansas City’s final out.
In Game 2, the Carolina Cowboys (7-12) snapped a five-game losing streak by posting a convincing 253.25-89 victory over the New York Mavericks (3-16). Ethan Winckler struck for 83.75 points early, thus paving the way for additional conversions from Clay Guiton (79.75) and two-time World Champion Jess Lockwood (89.75) to make some noise and finish the job inside Honda Center. The Mavericks dropped an eighth-straight decision, just 1-for-5 on the night thanks to an impressive 89-point conversion from Mauricio Gulla Moreira.
Thiago Salgado got right to business for the Florida Freedom (14-5) during the evening’s third contest, scored 87.5 points during his team’s opening out, his sixth consecutive and league leading 14th ride. Rising to the occasion two outs later, Eduardo Matos matched the mark for his Oklahoma Wildcatters (7-12) and created a tie game. Following a few buckoffs, the stage was set for John Crimber to clinch the win courtesy of a game-high 88.25-pointer aboard Love County to successfully keep Florida locked into the No. 2 rank heading into Championship Sunday. Florida also brings a three-game winning streak into Sunday’s finale out west.
Saturday’s fourth game featured some back-and-forth theatrics, but it was the Texas Rattlers (12-7) who exited the competition against the Missouri Thunder (8-11) with a victory despite both teams going 3-for-5 overall. The win marked the Rattlers’ fourth-straight victory.
Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (85) and Maverick Smith (86) got the Thunder off to a perfect 2-for-2 start. And despite a third conversion from Macaulie Leather (84.5), Missouri dropped the decision to the 2023 PBR Teams Champs, who utilized scores from Claudio Montanha Jr. (88.5), Daniel Keeping (87.5) and Trace Redd (85.25), whose game-clincher, the first of his career, proved to be the difference maker.
Concluding night two’s slate, the Arizona Ridge Riders (14-5) defeated the Nashville Stampede (6-12) via a 339.75-85.75 final as the Ridge Riders improved to 2-0 on the weekend while Nashville dropped its fourth-straight contest.
Damiao Soares recorded the Stampede’s only qualified ride, an 85.75-point effort, while Arizona went 4-for-5 on the night propelled by conversions from Eduardo Aparecido (85.25), Elzisclay dos Santos (82), Luciano De Castro (86.5) and Riquelme Santos (86). Tied with the Florida Freedom at 14 wins and just one game back from the Gamblers, the Ridge Riders look to close out the weekend in flawless fashion Sunday afternoon during a matchup against the New York Mavericks.
Action concludes with the PBR Teams: Anaheim event finale Sunday, September 7 at 1:15 p.m. PT inside Honda Center.
