CLUNY, Alta. –  As an electric crowd watched on Thursday night in Cluny, Alberta, Jett Harkins (Stephenville, Texas) reached a crucial career milestone, delivering the high-marked ride of the Canadian Touring Pro Division’s Cluny Charity PBR (Professional Bull Riders) to win his career-first PBR event.

Harkins was tasked with House Fire (Eno Bucking Bulls) in Round 1. In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Harkins rode the animal athlete for an event-best 87 points.

Despite being bucked off by Time Marches On (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) in 2.56 second in the championship round, Harkins’ opening round score was enough to clinch him his first PBR event victory.

Harkins left Coulee Creek Farms with 46 national points. He rose from unranked to No. 25 in the Canadian standings.

Canadian No. 1 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) furthered his grasp on the top spot in the national standings by finishing third.

Chasing his record-tying third PBR Canada Championship this November, Buttar rode Hiway Junky (Wilson Rodeo) for 84 points in the opening round to collect 22 national points.

Buttar grew his lead over to No. 2 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) to 142 points.

Gardner tied for fourth alongside Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan), each netting 16.5 national points.

Logging matching 83-point rides in Round 1, Gardner bested Night Hawk (Kinky Buckers and Calgary Stampede) while Roy conquered Shocker (Vold Rodeo).

While Gardner maintained his No. 2 rank in the standings, Roy rose from No. 10 to No. 8. Seeking his unprecedented fourth Canadian Championship at season’s end, Roy now trails No. 1 Buttar by 553.67 points.

Returning to the top of the event standings and rounding out the Top 5 was Francisco Costa (Humaita, Brazil) in second.

Costa made the requisite 8 on Blast Off (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 85.5 points in Round 1, earning 33 national points.

The surging Brazilian climbed from No. 13 to No. 12 in the national standings.

In the bull pen, Moster Chip (Flying High Rodeo Co.) and Bon Jovi (Wilson Rodeo) bucked supreme, tying for the Bull of the Event honors with matching 43.5-point outs.

For Chip, he bucked in the opening round, tossing Austin Paley (Beverlodge, Alberta) in 5.53 seconds, while Bon Jovi lit up the scoreboard in the championship round when he upended Costa in 3.13 seconds.
