Magic Potion breaks Cool Whip’s record streak with 49th consecutive buckoff

Magic Potion dispatched Lucas Divino in Round 4 of the 2025 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast - Eliminations to become the all-time buckoff king.

FORT WORTH, Texas – All hail the buckoff king.

For the second consecutive year at the PBR World Finals, the existing record for most consecutive buckoffs has been broken – an incredible feat after the prior record, Bushwacker’s mark of 42 in a row, stood for more than a decade.

In 2024, Cool Whip recorded his 43rd consecutive buckoff to take his place in PBR history, going on to reach 48 in a row before being ridden by Sandro Batista in January.

In 2025, it was Magic Potion’s turn to dominate all riders who climbed aboard.

The stout brown bovine has been an unstoppable force. No rider has ever been able to make the 8-second whistle, dating back to his Unleash The Beast debut in 2021. He tied Cool Whip’s buckoff streak of 48 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in April.

On Sunday afternoon inside Cowtown Coliseum at the 2025 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast – Eliminations, Magic Potion took sole possession of the record, dispatching Lucas Divino in 2.41 seconds for consecutive buckoff No. 49.

“It’s kind of an unbelievable feeling,” stock contractor Kenny McElroy said. “To have a bull not only have an unridden streak that long, but to be in the same bracket as that caliber of bulls throughout their great careers, it’s an honor.”

It also almost never came to be.

McElroy purchased Magic Potion in February of 2022 from Bart Futrell and D&H Cattle after his 4-year-old year. He’d tried to buy him two years earlier, but Futrell didn’t want to sell, and McElroy lost track of him.

But then he saw him again at a UTB.

“I think he was the high-marked bull that weekend, and I went, ‘Okay. I’m going to push this issue with Bart,’” McElroy recalls. “And I did, and we ended up getting him bought. I couldn’t have been happier, and we’ve just never really looked back since. He just keeps getting better and better, and there’s not much else you can say about him other than that he’s a superstar.”

But in September of 2024, disaster struck. At Cowboy Days in Greensboro, North Carolina, Magic Potion broke one of his front legs. McElroy thought that was it.

“We thought we were going to be done,” he said. “We didn’t even cast it. We put him on some supplements, which are now a really big part of our program, which is OptiWize. That bull couldn’t hardly walk. He was three-legged, and 15, 16 days after OptiWize, he was out running around. This stuff is incredible, and we owe a lot to that product.

“I wasn’t sure we’d ever get to buck him again, but after, we laid him off, and he just kept getting better and better and better. We x-rayed him every 4-6 weeks, and after about 60 days, he was completely healed. The bone had grown back, and it was perfect. There were no slivers, no chips, no nothing. So I think the good Lord upstairs had a lot to do with it. I think he helped us along the way, for sure.”

Magic Potion was back in action at the 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series Championships in Las Vegas in late October, and it’s been all systems go ever since.

“Now, he’s probably in the best shape that bull’s ever been in,” McElroy said. “He’s pure muscle. I bet there might only be 40% body fat on that dude. He is just stout. Big, wide back. Big-necked. And when they pull a rope in him, you can just watch his demeanor. It changes. You can see his muscles get bigger, and he kind of flexes himself. He knows his job.”

Unlike previous record-holder Cool Whip, who’s famously a huge softie, Magic Potion can have a bit of an attitude and doesn’t always want to be touched. McElroy says he’s always going 100 miles an hour.

“Some days, you can scratch him. Some days, he don’t even want you close to him,” McElroy said. “But that’s just him. And I think that’s why he’s been unridden. He’s so unpredictable. You never know what he’s going to do.

“Gosh, he’s just a bucker. He loves his job. If he’s not the first one on the truck, he’s trying to tear the pen down to get on the truck because he’s mad he’s not in the alleyway going. He’s just really cool to be around.”

Magic Potion’s unique combination of elite athleticism and a sharp mind can already be seen in his calves. One of them, named The Devil’s Potion, is a 2-year-old from whom McElroy already expects great things.

“He looks just like him, minus the white face, and he is for sure all about his daddy,” McElroy said. “They act just alike. He’s got that attitude. So we’re pretty tickled for him coming up in the ranks, and hopefully one day his offspring will be here (at World Finals), like Preacher’s Kid’s and them. It’s pretty cool.”

But The Devil’s Potion’s day is still in the future. Right now, it’s Magic Potion’s time to shine, and only time will tell what history he’ll ultimately make.

“I really enjoy hauling this bull,” McElroy said. “I enjoy everything about him. It’s a great feat. I don’t think there’s anything that a stock contractor could want more than to have their animal compete at this level and do the things that he’s done.”
