By Kacie Albert

BROOKS, Alta. – As the 2025 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada season continued Friday night in Brooks, Alberta, for the Touring Pro Division’s Koye Larson Memorial PBR, Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) went a perfect 2-for-2 to win the event and further his stronghold on the No. 1 rank in the race for the 2025 Canadian Championship.

Gardner got off to a fast start, tying for the Round 1 win when he covered Kraken (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 87 points.

The charismatic British Columbia native then cemented the win with a matching 87-point ride in the championship round, making the requisite 8 on MoBamba (Thompson Rodeo Livestock).

Gardner’s golden finish was coupled with a seventh-place effort courtesy of a double-entry.

His second Top 10 finish was headlined by an 84-point ride atop Rock Steady (Vold Rodeo) in Round 1. Gardner was denied a perfect 4-for-4 sweep when he was tossed by Whiskey Moon (Skori Bucking Bulls) in 4.41 seconds in the final round.

Earning 69.5 points, Gardner extended his lead atop the Canadian standings, now 77 points ahead of new No. 2 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan).

Buttar finished sixth at the Koye Larson Memorial PBR to leapfrog an injured Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) for the No. 2 rank.

Two-time PBR Canada Champion Buttar went 1-for-2, riding Rich N Famous (Kinky Buckers) for 84 points in Round 1 to collect 14 national points.

Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, two-time PBR Canada Champion Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) was second.

Delivering a perfect 2-for-2 outing of his own at Centennial Regional Arena, Coverchuk topped Dealing After Midnight (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 81 points in Round 1, before outlasting Whisky at Noon (Vold Rodeo) for an event-best 88.5 points in the championship round.

Coverchuk earned 45 national points, rising from No. 13 to No. 5 in the standings. He is now 155 points behind No. 1 Gardner.

Weston Davidson (Strongfield, Saskatchewan) parlayed an 87-point ride on Al Capone (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) in Round 1 into a third-place finish, netting 24.5 national points.

Seeking his first PBR Canada Championship this November, Davidson climbed from No. 8 to No. 6 in Canada, propelled within 158 points of the No. 1 rank.

Fourth was Griffin Koester (Rockyford, Alberta).

Koester covered Hanna Motors Sure Shot (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 86 points in Round 1. Awarded 19 national points, the Albertan rose three spots in the Canadian standings, climbing from No. 18 to No. 15.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Eric O’Flynn (Quesnell, British Columbia).

O’Flynn rode Shut Up and Ride (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 85.5 points in the opening round. Leaving Brooks with 16 national points, O’Flynn rose from No. 16 to No. 12 in the standings.

In the bull pen, Sober Child (Flying High Rodeo Co.) bucked a cut above the rest, crowned the Bull of the Event. Bucking in the championship round, the powerful animal athlete was marked an unrivaled 44.5 points for his 2.6 seconds of work against Cauy Schmidt (Coronation, Alberta).
