DAUPHIN, Man. – As the third PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series event of 2025 got underway Friday night in Dauphin, Manitoba, Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) rode supreme, winning Round 1 of the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out to overtake the No. 2 rank in the national standings.

Two-time PBR Canada Champion Buttar was paired with Smooth Sailor (S&M Bucking Bulls) as action got underway inside Keystone Centre at Westoba Place. In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Buttar rode the powerful animal athlete for a round-winning 84.5 points.

The top score earned Buttar a crucial 28 national points. He rose from No. 3 to No. 2 in Canada and now trails No. 1 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) by 88.5 points.

Gardner tied for second in Round 1 alongside Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta), each netting 17.5 national points.

Both riders registered 84-point scores, covering Red Rust (Vold Rodeo) and Day Thuggin (S&M Bucking Bulls), respectively.

Gardner furthered his stronghold on the No. 1 rank in Canada, while Robbins climbed from No. 18 to No. 13 in the standings.

Austin Paley (Beverlodge, Alberta) was fourth.

His 82-point effort aboard Diggin Up Bones (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) earned him 16 national points.

After travelling to Manitoba unranked, Paley is now No. 27 in the race for the 2025 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Micheal Ostashek (Edson, Alberta).

Ostashek netted 15 national points courtesy of his 81.5-point ride atop Times A Wasting (Thompson Rodeo Livestock), rising from No. 32 to No. 23 in Canada.

Action for the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, May 24. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
