GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. – For the sixth time in history, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s elite Cup Series will return to Grande Prairie, Alberta, holding the PBR Peace Country Invitational at Bonnetts Energy Centre on September 27.
PBR Canada’s Cup Series, which set tour attendance records in nine cities in 2024, features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the organization’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation.
For one night only, fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the unpredictable, action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 1,800-pound opponents born to buck.
The PBR Peace Country Invitational will mark the seventh event of the 2025 regular season for PBR Canada’s premier Cup Series.
When the Cup Series last travelled to Grande Prairie in September 2024, Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) went a perfect 3-for-3 to win the Peace Country Invitational and overtake the then No. 1 rank in the fierce race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus.
The Saskatchewan man first put points on the board when he tied for third in Round 1 via an 84-point ride on Times A Wasting (Thompson Rodeo Livestock). He then overtook the second spot on the event leaderboard when he covered Two Bills (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 83 points in Round 2.
In the championship round, Coverchuk elected to go head-to-head with Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls), a decision which proved dividends. Remaining in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete, Coverchuk reached the whistle for and event-best 87.5 points, clinching the victory.
Coverchuk’s golden finish earned him a crucial 231 national points. After traveling to Grande Prairie ranked No. 2 in Canada, 3 points behind then No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta), Coverchuk overtook the top spot, leapfrogging Tetz by 173 points.
As the season continued, Coverchuk fell just short of his record tying third national title, finishing No. 2 to Tetz by 284.25 points after concluding the year with a 12th-place result at the 2024 PBR Canada National Finals.
Other past PBR Canada Cup Series event winners in Grande Prairie are: Dakota Buttar (2023, 2020, 2020 – Eatonia, Saskatchewan); Aaron Roy (2022 – Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan); Jake Gardner (2021 – Fort St. John, British Columbia); Lonnie West (2020 – Cadogan, Alberta); Zane Lambert (2020 – Ponoka, Alberta) and Callum Miller (Warwick, Queensland, Australia – 2020).
