FORT WORTH, Texas – Last May, at the 2024 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast, Cool Whip broke three-time YETI World Champion Bull Bushwacker’s record for most consecutive buckoffs.
Bushwacker’s mark of 42 buckoffs in a row was set in 2013 and remained all but untouchable for more than a decade. Many thought it was a record that may never be broken.
Cool Whip, however, broke the record and then kept on bucking, extending the all-time mark to 48 consecutive buckoffs before being ridden by Sandro Batista for 89.75 points in Sacramento, California, in January.

It’s a testament to the extraordinary bull power of this generation to say that Cool Whip might not even be the buckoff king for a year, and 48 might not even be the record for three months.
This past weekend at the PREMIER Bankcard PBR Sioux Falls, presented by Cooper Tires, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Magic Potion etched his name in bovine history when he tied Cool Whip with his 48th consecutive buckoff.
And he did so decisively, slinging Hudson Bolton to the ground in 1.99 seconds.
“It’s pretty awesome, I ain’t going to lie, to have one go through the best bull riders in the world and end up with a chance to tie the buckoff record, which was held for years and years,” stock contractor Kenny McElroy told Kate Harrison before Magic Potion’s out in Sioux Falls. “So we’re pretty excited.”
Notably, Magic Potion has never been ridden, even before the streak. He made his Unleash The Beast debut in 2021, bucking off Andrew Alvidrez in 5.33 seconds, and has since gone on to dispatch the likes of No. 1 Dalton Kasel, No. 2 Brady Fielder, perennial world title contender Joao Ricardo Vieira, and World Champions Cassio Dias, Jose Vitor Leme, Silvano Alves and Cooper Davis.
Davis was in the commentary booth during Magic Potion’s history-tying out.
“This bull is special right here,” Davis said. “He is so fast and electric around to that right. You’ve got to be ready for it.”
LONGEST BUCKOFF STREAKS IN PBR HISTORY
T1. Magic Potion – 48 (active)
T1. Cool Whip – 48 (broken by Sandro Batista in January 2025)
2. Bushwacker – 42 (broken by J.B. Mauney in August 2013)
3. Heartbreak Kid – 40 (broken by Jess Lockwood in October 2019)
Indeed, Magic Potion’s speed is one of the things McElroy says is special about him.
“He’s just fast,” McElroy said. “You never know what he’s going to do. He can turn back to the left. He can turn back to the right. He’s just one of them bulls that’s smart, you know? I think he goes a lot off of feel, and if them guys don’t sit in the middle of him, you’re just holding your breath because you never know what he’s going to do, and he’s so fast. And he’s kind of mean.”

Whether Magic Potion claims the record for himself or not, McElroy knows he has a special animal on his hands.
“At home, he’s calmed down,” he said. “We’re starting to kind of love on him a little bit, and his demeanor’s changing. So now I think he’s just thinking more about bucking than he is anything else, and that’s a pleasure for us to have on the farm. And his calves are just outstanding.”
The next generation of Magic Potions is a scary proposition for bull riders.
But for now, Magic Potion will continue on his quest to claim his spot as the buckoff king. We could see the record for consecutive buckoffs broken at the World Finals two years in a row, so don’t miss any of the action at the 2025 PBR World Finals: Unleash The Beast.
We’ll see if the history books get rewritten in the coming weeks, but Magic Potion has already secured himself a spot among the greatest bucking bulls of all time.
“To join a list like that and be ahead of bulls like Bushwacker, Heartbreak Kid, Cool Whip – it doesn’t get any better than that,” Davis said.
