FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 99th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Alex Cerqueira (Iguatemi, Brazil) went 2-for-2 to take home the event title.
Paired with RCT 112 (Rafter C Cattle) in the opening round, Cerqueira made the 8 for 84.5 points.
Sitting in third heading into his final out, the Brazilian rocketed out of the chutes atop Razor (Sutton/Broken Arrow S) for a round-winning, event-high 86 points to secure the win.
The victory not only netted Cerqueira 125 Velocity Global points but also one of the five invites through the weekly event to the PBR World Finals Ride For Redemption rounds at Cowtown Coliseum May 14-15.
In addition to Cerqueira, four other riders were given invites to Ride For Redemption sessions through the PBR Stockyards Showcase.
Junior Patrik Souza (Sonora, Brazil) and Guthrie Long (Pecos, Texas) both earned a spot at Ride For Redemption after tying for second Thursday evening.
Souza rode Boss Hoggin (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 85 points, while Long matched him aboard CMSR 30 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) to split the Round 1 win.
In Round 2, Mud Bog (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) bested Souza in 4.25 seconds, while Old Spice (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) bucked off Long in 2.45 seconds.
Both cowboys returned home with 66 Velocity Global points.
Lucas Martins Costa (Frutal, Brazil) finished in a three-way tie for fourth in addition to securing the fourth spot at Ride For Redemption.
In Round 1, Costa rode Con-Air (Rafter C Cattle) for 83.5 points before he was bested by Mr. Gold (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) in 2.43 seconds in Round 2.
The 1-for-2 performance garnered Costa 31.7 Velocity Global points.
The final rider to earn a spot at Ride For Redemption was Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil), who has won the weekly PBR Stockyards Showcase seven times and went 1-for-2 to finish tied for seventh in the event standings Thursday night.
Pereira topped Sauced Up (Rafter C Cattle) for 83 points in Round 1 but was bucked off by Iceman (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) in 4.02 seconds in Round 2.
The Brazilian cowboy left Cowtown Coliseum with 17 Velocity Global points.
Also of note were the performances of Jean Carlos de Souza (Mirante Do Paranapanema, Brazil) and Davi Henrique de Lima (Candido Mota, Brazil), who tied with Costa for fourth.
Souza rode Heartbreaker (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points in Round 1 before bucking off Dirty Money (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) in 5.49 seconds in Round 2.
His fellow Brazilian Lima matched Souza by sitting tall atop The Gambler (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points in the opening round.
Lima was similarly dispatched in Round 2, bucking off Aces & Eights (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) in 5.83 seconds during the final round.
Both cowboys earned 31.7 Velocity Global points for their efforts Thursday night.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Iceman, Mr. Gold, The Paint (Cooper/Scruggs Bucking Bulls) and CMSR 129 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) were all marked 43.5 points to split the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns for the 100th time on Thursday, April 24. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
