FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 94th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Maikon Calixton Rocha (Orindiuva, Brazil) went 2-for-2 to win the event title.
A rider for the Kansas City Outlaws on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Rocha topped Night Prowler (Lee Bucking Stock) for 86 points to finish second in Round 1.
Knowing he needed to make the 8 to take home the event buckle, the Brazilian rocketed out of the chutes aboard Black Sheep (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for an event-high-tying 88 points to win the round and catapult to the top of the leaderboard.
The victory earned Rocha 59 Velocity Global points.
Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) finished second.
A new resident of the Lone Star State, Cole topped Wyloh Ranch 905 (Wyloh Ranch) for 84 points in Round 1 and Heavy Lifting (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton bull Co) for 84.5 points in Round 2.
The perfect performance netted Cole 45 Velocity Global points.
The final spot on the podium belonged to Carlos Andre de Oliveira (Ipameri, Brazil).
Tasked with Campbell 229 (Campbell Cattle Co) in the opening round, the Brazilian cowboy stormed out of the chutes for 83 points.
Now in a groove, Oliveira covered CMSR 050 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 84 points in the final round.
The bronze finish garnered Oliveira 33 Velocity Global points.
In fourth place was Frederick Araujo Margarido (Santa Luzia, Brazil).
Margarido got off to a hot start, winning Round 1 by riding Hey Jack (Wyloh Ranch) for an event-high-tying 88 points.
In Round 2, CMSR 849 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) got the better of Margarido, bucking him off in a quick 2.26 seconds.
The Brazilian left Cowtown Coliseum with 23 Velocity Global points.
The final qualified ride of the evening belonged to Weslei Ferreira de Jesus (Inocencia, Brazil), who finished fifth.
After riding Campbell 111 (Campbell Cattle Co) for 81 points in Round 1, Jesus was bested by Western Haulers Starburst (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in 1.90 seconds in the final round.
Jesus returned home with 15 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Buck Jam (Lee Bucking Stock) and Night Agent (Lee Bucking Stock) were both marked 43.5 points to split the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, March 13. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
