ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A sold out second-night crowd inside of The Pit was at full volume on Saturday night as Ethan Winckler (Winnie, Texas) conquered Magic Hunter for 90 points to climb to the top of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast (UTB) PBR Albuquerque Ty Murray Invitational Round 2 leaderboard.
The 19-year-old, who rides for the Carolina Cowboys during the separate PBR Teams league, had a less-than-ideal Friday night, bucking off of Hoobastank in under four seconds, thus becoming a man on a mission Saturday in his matchup with Magic Hunter.
Winckler was one of 14 riders in a 40-man field to record a qualified ride on Saturday night. His standout, career-first 90-point ride put him in the No. 6 spot on the event leaderboard heading into Sunday’s final rounds.
Collecting 29 Unleash The Beast points for his round-winning ride, Winckler moved from No. 42 in the standings to No. 40.
With just four regular-season events following Albuquerque remaining until the PBR World Finals in Texas May 8-18, all eyes are focused on the gold buckle chase – none more than world No. 2 Brady Fielder (Clermont, Queensland, Australia).
Dethroned as world leader just one week prior in Palm Desert, California, by Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas), Fielder narrowed the distance between himself and the No. 1 position.
While the top two riders in the world both hit the ground far too early on Friday night, Fielder netted a solid 86.5-point score aboard Let’s Roll in Round 2. Kasel, while seemingly perfect in his pairing with Hades Saturday night, ended up 0-for-2 once judges reviewed and determined his free arm touched the bull at the 6.86-second mark.
Fielder cut Kasel’s lead to 32.5 points heading into Championship Sunday.
2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen (Piffard, New York), and Winckler’s Carolina Cowboys teammate, pushed himself into the event Top 10 on Saturday night with a second-place round finish. Tasked with Walk Hard, Swearingen showcased champion form as he sailed through the air for 89.25 points. Holding strong at No. 28 in the UTB standings, he earned 18 UTB points.
After an impressive performance on Friday night, capturing first place in Round 1, Paulo Eduardo Rossetto (Colorado, Brazil) furthered his hold at the very top of the PBR Albuquerque Ty Murray Invitational leaderboard as night two rolled to a close.
As one of only four men to sit a perfect 2-for-2 midway through the weekend, Rossetto conquered One Chance in Round 2 for 88.5 points, tying for third place in the round with Daniel Keeping (Montague, Texas). The qualified ride netted the cowboy 16.5 UTB points and propelled him to No. 10 in the overall standings.
Keeping was up next in the duo, aboard Hoka Hey. The Texas Rattlers athlete who had no luck on Friday night during the Monster Energy Team Challenge, presented by Camping World, earned 16.5 points for his Round 2 ride and now sits at No. 32 in the world.
After besting All Hat No Rattle on Friday night for 83 points, 19-year-old Oklahoma Wildcatters athlete Clay Guiton (Decatur, Texas) finished in fifth place in Round 2 courtesy of an 87.75-point dance with Short Fire.
Guiton earned 15 UTB points on Saturday night to sit at No. 25 in the world standings.
Action for the PBR Albuquerque Ty Murray Invitational will continue with Round 3 followed immediately by the championship round on Sunday, March 30, at 1:45 p.m. MT.
All four rounds of competition in New Mexico will be available LIVE and FREE on PBR’s X channel (https://x.com/PBR), RidePass on Pluto TV, PBR’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@pbr), PBR’s mobile app (https://qrco.de/bdtdKp), and PBR’s app on connected TVs, including Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and Google TV.
