NORFOLK, Va. – After the opening round of GOVX PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Norfolk, Michael Lane (Tazewell, Virginia) sits alone atop the leaderboard.

Paired with Little Rascal (Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls), Lane stormed out of the chutes for a round-winning 86 points.

The home-state cowboy earned 28 Velocity Global points for his performance Friday night.

Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) and Conner Halverson (Gordon, Nebraska) split second after the opening round inside Chartway Arena.

Mitchell covered One Horn Willie (Scott Burruss) for 84.5 points in Round 1, while the cornhusker cowboy rocketed out of the chutes atop Erner Permer (Chicken Hill Buckin Bulls) for his own 84.5-point ride.

Both riders walked away with 17.5 Velocity Global points.

In fourth place was Lucas Martins Costa (Frutal, Brazil).

The Brazilian rocketed out of the gate atop Bucking Bill (Lucas Manning Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points.

Costa netted 16 Velocity Global points for his ride.  

Carlos Garcia (Abingdon, Virginia) finished fifth in the opening round.

Tasked with Frank the Tank (LH Cattle Co.), the commonwealth cowboy made the 8 for 83 points.

He left Chartway Arena with 15 Velocity Global points.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

GOVX PBR Norfolk concludes with Round 2 and the championship round tomorrow, Saturday, March 1, beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
