LAREDO, Texas – When the dust settled inside Sames Auto Arena for the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Michelob ULTRA PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Laredo, Callum Miller (Warwick, Queensland, Australia) had done enough to take home the event buckle.
After bucking off of Try Me (Hurst Ranch & Rodeo LLC) in 3.64 seconds during the opening round, Miller rallied in Round 2.
Tasked with Dang, Dang (Waymore Bucking Bulls), Miller converted for an event-high 88 points.
Now in a groove, the Aussie cowboy roared out of the chutes aboard Sava (Folsom Point Bucking Bulls) for 87.5 points to tie for the round win and catapult to the top of the leaderboard.
The victory secured Miller 131 Velocity Global points.
The man who tied Miller in the championship round was Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil), who finished second.
Valleiras stormed out of the gate on Red Bull (Waymore Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points in Round 1.
Despite bucking off Redline (D4 Redline Pro Rodeo) in 2.62 seconds in the second round, the Brazilian rallied to cover Mr. Right Now (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co.) for 87.5 points in the championship round.
His 2-for-3 performance earned him 90 Velocity Global points.
The final spot on the podium belonged to Flavio Zivieri (Balsamo, Brazil).
The Brazilian rode Pearl (CIL Cattle Co #2) for 87.5 points to win the opening round.
Now locked in, Zivieri then rode LP’s Hitman Harris (TDS/Buentello Bucking Bulls) for 85 points to take the lead heading into the championship round.
Unfortunately for Zivieri, Double R Hat House Pepper Shaker (Sho-Me Rodeo/Wyloh) bested him after 6.58 seconds to end the Brazilian’s quest for the event title.
The bronze finish netted Zivieri 78.5 Velocity Global points.
In fourth place was Eric Novoa (Vacaville, California), who went 2-for-3.
Novoa sat in a three-way tie after Round 1, where he rode Legitness (CIL Cattle Co) for 85 points.
The Californian then separated himself from the pack by making the 8 aboard Co-Witt (Sho-Me Rodeo/Wyloh) for 85.5 points.
In the championship round, Johnny’s After Party (TDS/Buentello Bucking Bulls) finally got the better of Novoa, bucking him off in 1.9 seconds.
Novoa left Sames Auto Arena with 51 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Bruno Carvalho (Alvarez Florence, Brazil).
He started strong, riding Action Jackson (TDS/Buentello Bucking Bulls) for 83 points in Round 1 and Damaged Goods (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co) for 86.5 points in Round 2.
In the championship round, Carvalho attempted to sit tall atop Si (Lonnie & Amy Austin), but he was bucked off after 4.6 seconds.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Red Bull (Waymore Bucking Bulls) and Long Gone (Twisted Horns Cattle Co) were both marked 43.5 points to split the Bull of the Event title.
While the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour bucked in Laredo and Greenville, South Carolina, the elite Unleash The Beast took over Golden 1 Center for Wranglers Long Live Cowboys PBR Sacramento, presented by Cooper Tires.
