FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 86th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Miguel de Jesus (Campo Alegre de Goias, Brazil) went a perfect 2-for-2 to win the event title.
Jesus finished second in the opening round courtesy of an 83.5-point outing aboard Zero Time (Mike Johnson).
Building on his Round 1 momentum, the Brazilian cruised out of the chutes on CMSR 11H (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for a Round 2-winning 85.5 points to catapult into the lead.
The victory netted Jesus a critical 59 Velocity Global points.
The only other rider to cover both his animal athlete opponents was Lucas Martins Costa (Frutal, Brazil), who finished second after winning the event the previous weekend.
Costa rode Viducic 2122 (Viducic Bucking Bulls) for 82.5 points in Round 1 and Heavy Lifting (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co) for 85 points in the final round.
The silver finish secured Costa 45 Velocity Global points.
The final spot on the podium belonged to Wyatt Rogers (Hulbert, Oklahoma), who went 1-for-2.
Rogers posted an event-high 86.5 points atop Viducic 121 (Viducic Bucking Bulls) to win the opening round.
Looking to maintain his lead, the Oklahoman rocketed out of the chutes on Crash Cart (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co) in Round 2 but was bucked off after a heart-pounding 6.74 seconds.
The veteran cowboy left Cowtown Coliseum with 26 Velocity Global points.
In fourth place was Jean Carlos de Souza (Mirante Do Paranapanema, Brazil).
The Brazilian got off to a strong start, covering Oyster Bay (Mike Johnson) for 81.5 points, but he was bucked off by Western Haulers Starburst (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in 3.57 seconds in the final round to end his quest for the event buckle.
Souza took home 18 Velocity Global points for his efforts Thursday evening.
The final ride of the night belonged to Manoelito de Souza Junior (Itamira, Brazil), who finished fifth.
Junior hung on to Moonshine (Mike Johnson) for 77.5 points in Round 1 but was bested by CMSR 121 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in 4.26 seconds in Round 2.
The 1-for-2 performance garnered the Brazilian cowboy 14 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Bad Magic (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co) was marked 44 points for his 2.39-second buckoff of Andy Bohl (St. Cloud, Florida) to take home the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, January 9. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
