GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana) emerged victorious after the dirt settled inside Van Andel Arena for PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Grand Rapids.

After riding The Frey (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 72 points to finish fourth in Round 1 of the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event on Friday, the grizzled veteran topped Helena’s Pet (J Bar W) for 77 points in Round 2.

Knowing he needed to make the 8 a third time to win his first event of the season, Mast stormed out of the chutes for an event-high 85 points atop Dr. Campbell (Nancy Haverty/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) to catapult to the top of the leaderboard.

The Indianan’s first career Velocity Tour victory secured Mast 120 Velocity Global points.

In second place was Cody Teel (College Station, Texas).

Tasked with Foul Play (J Bar W), Teel sat tall for 74.5 points to finish second in the opening round.

In Round 2, the Texan matched his Round 1 score, riding Real OG (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for another 74.5 points.

Now on a roll, Teel converted once again in the championship round, topping Ponotoc (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 83.5 points.

His perfect weekend netted him 80.5 Velocity Global points.

Cody McCandless (Derry, Pennsylvania) finished third. 

In the opening round, McCandless held onto Chainsaw (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 73 points.

The Pennsylvanian then catapulted up the event standings in the second round by riding Jillian (J Bar W) for 83.5 points.

In search of his second career Velocity Tour event title, McCandless roared out of the chutes atop Peanut Butter Falcon (Clay Stuve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 75 points to seize the final spot on the podium.

The bronze finish garnered the Keystone State cowboy 71 Velocity Global points.

In fourth place was Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri).

In the second-to-last out of Round 1, Mitchell sat tall atop Maximus (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for a round-winning 84.5 points.

The Show-Me State cowboy then kept it rolling in Round 2, riding Say Your Prayers (C Check Bucking Bulls) for 82.5 points.

In the championship round, Mitchell was finally bested by his animal athlete counterpart, bucking off Catching Gears (C-B Bucking Bulls) in 3.17 seconds.

The Missourian took home 66 Velocity Global points for his efforts in Michigan.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Matt Allgood (Saline, Michigan).

Competing just over two hours from home, Allgood was bucked off by Nahewdak (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in 3.17 seconds in Round 1.

The veteran bounced back in Round 2, riding Duffy (C Check Bucking Bulls) for 79 points to punch his ticket to the championship round.

In the final round, Allgood topped First Class (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points.

The 2-for-3 performance earned Allgood 47 Velocity Global points.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

In the bull pen, Best Bet (C-B Bucking Bulls) and Pocket Change (J Bar W) were each marked 43.5 points to split the Bull of the Event title.

While the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour bucked in Grand Rapids and Tulsa, Oklahoma, the elite Unleash The Beast took over PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
