CHARLESTON, W.V. – After two days of bull riding at Charleston Coliseum, Ethan Winckler (Winnie, Texas) rode supreme, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Charleston event title.
After hanging onto Tootsie Roll (Herndon Bucking Bulls) for 80 points in Round 1, the Texan rocketed out of the chutes on Wagon Hound (Barrett/Barnes Rodeo #2) for a Round 2-winning 86 points.
Now on a roll, Winckler completed his perfect weekend by riding Soul Train (UB Bucking Company) for 85 points in the final round to take the lead.
Winckler’s first career Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour victory netted him 127.5 Velocity Global points.
In second place was Bob Mitchell (Steelville, Missouri).
The Show-Me State cowboy covered Bomb Diggity (Davis Rodeo Ranch) for 86.5 points in Round 1, then danced in perfect time with The One (Sho-Me Rodeo/Wyloh) for 85.5 points in the second round.
In the final out of the event, Mitchell attempted to walk off victorious, but he came up less than a point short on Inaffit (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls), scoring just 78.5 points.
The silver finish garnered Mitchell 99 Velocity Global points.
Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) and Flavio Zivieri (Balsamo, Brazil) split the final spot on the podium.
The Brazilian cowboy sat tall aboard Wagon Hound (Barett/Barnes Rodeo #2) for 85.5 points in Round 1, while Cole was bucked off by Armageddon (Dave Martin/Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) in 6.09 seconds.
The roles reversed in Round 2, where the Pennsylvania cowboy topped Sugar Smack (UB Bucking Company) for 85 points while Zivieri was bucked off by Jackin’ Around (JQH Bucking Bulls – Skip & Elaine Jones) in 2.15 seconds.
Both cowboys found their groove in the championship round, as Cole won the round by riding Co-Witt (Sho-Me Rodeo/Wyloh) for 85.5 points while Zivieri converted for 85 points atop High Road (Campbell Cattle Co/Cannon Cattle Co).
With his 2-for-3 performance and round win, Cole took home 73 Velocity Global points, while Zivieri left Charleston with 61.5 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Zane Cook (Fort Gibson, Oklahoma).
After bucking off Dang, Dang (Harley Joe Cattle Co) in 3.15 seconds in the opening round, Cook rallied to cover Pretty Boy (Harley Joe Cattle Co) for 85 points in Round 2.
The Oklahoman then catapulted up the leaderboard in the championship round, riding Festus (Dustin Denning Bucking Bulls) for 82 points.
The 2-for-3 outing secured Cook 49.5 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Red Bull (Harley Joe Cattle Co) was marked 44 points for bucking off Stetson Bennett (Winchester, Indiana) in 2.03 seconds to win the Bull of the Event title.
While the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour bucked in Charleston and Bakersfield, California, the elite Unleash The Beast took over Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, for Michelob ULTRA PBR Houston.
