NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in North Charleston, South Carolina, got underway Friday night, Dawson Gleaves (Amarillo, Texas) rode supreme, winning Round 1 of PBR North Charleston.
Gleaves, who rides for the Missouri Thunder in the separate PBR Teams league, was one of eight riders to convert Friday night inside North Charleston Coliseum. The reserved Texan led the contingent courtesy of his unrivaled, 86-point ride on Lil Wayne (Kevin Foreman Bucking Bulls).
The golden showing in the opening round of competition in the Palmetto State netted Gleaves 28 points in the race for the 2025 Velocity Tour Championship.
Wyatt Rogers (Hulbert, Oklahoma) was second, earning 18 Velocity Global points. Rogers bested Ah Hell (Barrett/Barnes Rodeo) for 84.5 points.
Third was Junior Patrik Souza (Sonora, Brazil). Souza made the requisite 8 on Grande Patron (Topline Steel Buildings/Barrett) for 84 points to garner 17 Velocity Global points.
Covering Action Jackson (TDS/Buentello Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points, Cody McCandless (Derry, Pennsylvania) was fourth. He concluded Friday night with 16 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 and tying for fifth was Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas) and Luiz Americo P. Silva (Timoteo, Brazil), each registering matching 83-point rides to earn 14.5 Velocity Global points.
Mitchell rode Gucci Time (Cross 33 Cattle/Daylon Swearingen), while Silva topped Dang, Dang (Harley Joe Cattle Co.).
Flavio Zivieri (Balsamo, Brazil) and Joao Paulo Fernandes (Hidrolina, Brazil), finishing seventh and eighth, respectively, in Round 1, were the final two riders to convert in Round 1.
Action for PBR North Charleston will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, Jan. 11. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. ET. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com and PBR.com, and at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
