Dalton Rudman wins Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in Portland, Oregon

The only rider to go a perfect 3-for-3, Rudman is now ranked No. 1 in the Velocity standings.

By Jay Blasingame

PORTLAND, Ore. – As the only man to flawlessly go 3-for-3 at Moda Center, Dalton Rudman (Wellington, Utah) won the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) event in Portland on Saturday night, clinching his third career event win.

Rudman took his first step toward the top of the leaderboard in Friday’s Round 1, capturing third place after making the 8 aboard Get At Me for 85 points.

The Beehive State cowboy continued the momentum into Round 2 on Saturday as he bested Do IT for a matching 85-point ride and a fourth-place finish. The two rides propelled him into the final round of the weekend.

In the championship round, he was paired with Snoop Dog. After successfully completing the trifecta, his 87-point score clinched the victory.

Rudman netted 141 Velocity Global points for his weekend in Portland and now sits at No. 1 in the Velocity standings.

Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

Aaron Williams (Pismo Beach, California) collected 90 Velocity Global points courtesy of his 2-for-3, second-place finish.

Williams came into Round 1 determined to start the weekend strong. Unfortunately, his bovine opponent, War Train, did too, throwing the California cowboy to the dirt in 4.19 seconds.

In Round 2, Williams came back ready to right the wrong, besting his matchup Get At Me for 86.5 points and tying for first place in the round with Ethan Winckler (Winnie, Texas).

Moving forward into the championship round, the 28-year-old cowboy was matched with Slim Shady. He came out victorious despite a less-than-ideal score of 79 points.

Williams leaves Portland No. 3 in the Velocity standings.

Eric Novoa (Vacaville, California) also went 2-for-3 over the weekend in Portland.

Paired with Smoke Screen in Round 1, he was successful in the matchup with an exhilarating 85.5 points.

The Golden State cowboy then continued his momentum into Round 2 on Saturday as he bested his bovine opponent, Range Rover, to record a 57-point ride.

Despite his low score in Round 2, Novoa qualified to return to the championship round, where he was matched with Tooth Fairy

Giving it his best efforts, Novoa was no match as the athletic bull won the matchup, throwing him to the dirt after a mere 2.16 seconds.

For his efforts over the weekend, the cowboy netted 58 Velocity Global Points and now sits at No. 6 in the Velocity standings.

Tying for fourth place at the first PWVT event of the season was Andy Guzman (Oakdale, California) and Winckler.

In Round 1, Guzman erupted from the chutes aboard Billy Bob. As the excited crowd cheered, the cowboy stayed on for the 8, winning the round with an impressive 86.5-point ride.

Looking forward to Round 2, the California man was paired with Smoke Screen. To the crowd’s dismay, the bull won this matchup, bucking Guzman off after 3.47 seconds.

After his buckoff in Round 2, the 21-year-old was hopeful for the championship round when he was matched against T Rex. However, the powerful bovine conquered, dismounting Guzman after 2.34 seconds.

He left Portland with 47 Velocity Global points, sitting at No. 7 in the Velocity standings.

After a buckoff in Round 1 against Whiskey Trip at 3.35 seconds, Winckler was paired with Fireball for Round 2. To the Oregon crowd’s delight, the animal athlete was no match for the 18-year-old cowboy, who successfully rode for 86.5 points, splitting the round win with Williams.

As Winckler entered the championship round, where he was paired with Entitled Little Tool, he hoped to keep the momentum going.

Unfortunately, his bovine partner threw him to the dirt after 4.8 seconds.

For his efforts in Portland, Winckler earned 42 Velocity Global Points. After leaving Oregon, he is the No. 8-ranked man in the Velocity standings.

The talented bull riders of the PWVT will next head to Spokane, Washington, for PBR Spokane at Spokane Arena on Jan. 10-11. In a double-up weekend, the PWVT will also be in North Charleston, South Carolina, for the PBR North Charleston at North Charleston Coliseum on Jan. 10-11.
