DENVER, Colo. – In a field of 90 riders split across two nights of competition for the opening round of the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) Denver PBR Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show, Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirao dos Indios, Brazil) was victorious on Tuesday night, winning Round 1.   

With the highest ride score of the entire two-day extended round at 91 points, the 35-year-old Texas Rattlers athlete dominated his matchup with a previously unridden bull, The Paint. 

Earning 29 Velocity Global points for his efforts, Montanha Jr. heads into the third day of competition atop the leaderboard. 

For Round 2 on Wednesday, the Top 30 riders from Round 1 will return to each face one bull. The 15 bull riders with the top combined ride scores following the first two rounds will then advance to the final championship round on Wednesday night.

Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) secured second place in Round 1 courtesy of his action-packed matchup with Renegade for 87.5 points on Tuesday night. In addition to sailing into Wednesday’s final round, Alvidrez, who is on the Missouri Thunder roster during the PBR Team Series, earned 18 Velocity Global points. 

Oklahoma Wildcatters man Cort McFadden (Novice, Texas) and seven-time PRCA World Champion Sage Kimzey (Strong City, Oklahoma) tied for third place in the round with matching 87-point ride scores. 

Kimzey, a member of the Austin Gamblers who won the 2024 Championship title, was in control aboard Ringling Road from the moment the chutes flew open Tuesday night.

While the night prior, McFadden had the Denver Coliseum crowd cheering as he triumphed over Down to Fly. 

Kimzey and McFadden each collected 16.5 Velocity Global points for their efforts.

New York Mavericks’ standout Leonardo Castro (Cassilandia, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5 with an 85.5-point ride aboard his bovine opponent Cutting Edges Bandit.

In addition to punching his ticket to Round 2, the Brazilian cowboy earned 15 Velocity Global points. 

The Denver PBR Chute Out will continue at the National Western Stock Show on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. MST for Round 2, immediately followed by the championship round.
