FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 87th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Chase Dougherty (Decatur, Texas) went a perfect 2-for-2 to take home the event title.
Competing less than two hours from home, Dougherty covered Mega Mind (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC) for 84 points in Round 1 before topping CMSR 015 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 81.5 points in Round 2.
The perfect performance netted Dougherty 55 Velocity Global points.
Lucas Martins Costa (Frutal, Brazil) went a perfect 2-for-2 and finished second for the second-straight PBR Stockyards Showcase.
In the opening round, Costa topped CMSR 055 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 84.5 points.
Now locked in, the Brazilian made the 8 for his sixth straight out in Fort Worth, covering Cheddar Biscuit (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 80.5 points.
He left Cowtown Coliseum with 44.5 Velocity Global points.
The final rider to cover both his animal athlete opponents was Eric Henrique Domingos (Perola, Brazil).
After riding Nix-33 (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 79 points in Round 1, Domingos stayed hot in Round 2, dancing with CMSR 169 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 80.5 points.
The bronze finish garnered the Brazilian cowboy 29.5 Velocity Global points.
In fourth place was Kase Hitt (Dickson, Oklahoma).
In Round 1, the Oklahoman was bucked off by The Good Stuff (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) in a heartbreaking 7.47 seconds.
Undeterred, Hitt bounced back in Round 2, winning the round courtesy of an event-high 86-point outing atop CMSR E01 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo).
The 1-for-2 performance earned Hitt 23 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Andrei Scoparo (Assis Chateaubriand, Brazil), who finished 1-for-1.
After winning the opening round by riding Old Spice (Schott/Sutton Rodeo) for 85 points in Round 1, Scoparo was unable to ride in the final round.
His lone out secured Scoparo 21 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Stewey (JD Nix Rodeo Co) was marked 44.5 points for his efficient 1.74-second buck off of Jeferson Silva (Pontese Lacerda, Brazil) in the opening round to win the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, January 23. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
