FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 84th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) and Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil) both went 2-for-2 to split the event title.
Souza roared out to an early lead, topping ECF B46 (Barthold & Eldred) for an event-high tying 86.5 points in Round 1.
Tied for the lead heading into the final round, the Massachusetts cowboy again converted, riding CMSR 015 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 83.5 points to maintain his spot atop the leaderboard.
Pereira inverted Souza’s path to the top, riding Hey Jack (Wyloh Ranch) for 83.5 points in Round 1 before matching his cowboy counterpart with his own 86.5-point outing on Smokey Old Fashioned (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in the final round.
Souza took home 51.5 Velocity Global points, while Pereira garnered 51 Velocity Global points.
Leandro Zampollo (Pirassununga, Brazil) and Bruno Carvalho (Alvares Florence, Brazil) also went 2-for-2 to split the final spot on the podium.
Zampollo finished third in Round 1 after riding Happy Hour (Richard & Teri Braun/Rafter G Rodeo) for 86 points while Carvalho covered ECF B47 (Barthold & Eldred) for 82 points.
In Round 2, Zampollo hung on to Train Smoke (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 80.5 points while Carvalho caught up to his fellow Brazilian by topping Johnny Ringo (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 84.5 points.
Both cowboys left Cowtown Coliseum with 30.5 Velocity Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Junior Patrik Souza (Sonora, Brazil), who was the final rider to cover both of his animal athlete opponents.
In the opening round, Souza sat tall aboard Lt. Dan (Rafter G Rodeo) for 82.5 points.
Finding his groove, he then shot out of the chutes on Train Station (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co) for 81.5 points.
His fifth-place finish earned Souza 25 Velocity Global points.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Rafter G 014H (Rafter G Rodeo) was marked 44 points for his Round 1 buckoff of Ednelio Almeida (Cacoal, Brazil) to take home the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, December 26. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
