ONTARIO, Calif. – As a sold-out Saturday night crowd roared, the top bull riders in the world garnered a record 23 rides, but it was 2019 PBR Rookie of the Year Dalton Kasel (Muleshoe, Texas) that clinched the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast (UTB) PBR Ontario Round 1 win.
Fresh off a major win in Las Vegas with the Austin Gamblers to clinch the 2024 PBR Teams Championship title in October, the 25-year-old was paired with Coach as the weekend in Southern California began.
With a standout 90.25-point ride, he stood and watched as the only man left to ride, world leader John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) and Florida Freedom phenom prepared for his matchup with Cyrus. In an uncharacteristic chain of events, Crimber, who was crowned the 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series MVP a few weeks ago, hit the ground at 7.63 seconds. Kasel’s signature smile launched across his face as he stepped onto the dirt to claim the win.
Sitting atop the leaderboard heading into Sunday, Kasel holds tight to the No. 2 spot in the UTB standings.
The two-day event at Toyota Arena marks the third time in history that the elite tour has visited Ontario and the second Unleash The Beast event of the 2025 season.
After going 1-for-2 last weekend in Tucson, Arizona, Thiago Salgado (Navirai, Brazil) hit the gas in California, capturing second place in Round 1.
Salgado, who rides for the Florida Freedom in PBR Teams, fired from the chutes aboard Yahoo for 89.25 points.
For his runner-up finish, the 22-year-old earned 18 Unleash The Beast points to climb 10 spots in the standings from No. 20 to No. 10.
Oregon man Dawson Branton (Jefferson, Oregon) moved up four spots in the standings after a third-place finish.
The 23-year-old who rode for the Carolina Cowboys in the PBR Team Series in 2024 stood on the back of the chutes laser focused on the task ahead.
Climbing aboard In My Blood, Branton was ranked No. 11 in the world.
After flying through the air aboard the bovine as fans cheered, his 88-point ride earned 17 Unleash The Beast points and moved him to No. 7 in the standings.
Kasel’s Gamblers teammate, 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil), ended his Saturday night as the No. 4 man on the Ontario leaderboard.
Climbing aboard Bad Bad Bull as his opponent of the night, he clung to the muscular animal as the clock wound down to record a satisfying 87.75-point score. All smiles as he excited the arena, the former World Champion stopped immediately to sign autographs for two young fans sitting near rider walk-off before heading back to the locker room.
The 16 Unleash The Beast points Pacheco collected moved him from No. 26 to No. 17.
A rookie and a two-time PBR World Champion rounded out the Top 5 together – Anderson de Oliveira (Novo Mundo, Brazil) and Jose Vitor Leme (Ribas do Rio Pardo, Brazil).
After going 1-for-2 in Tucson last week, Nashville Stampede’s Oliveira was matched with Kwik Lock as his first partner of the weekend.
Firing from the chutes, the 38-year-old rookie was in complete control, netting an 87.5-point score.
Just a few rides later, Austin Gamblers’ athlete Leme showcased his typical World Champion form, besting I’m Him for a matching score. The qualified ride in Round 1 in Ontario was his 338th career qualified ride.
The duo both earned 14.5 UTB points. Oliveira, who began the weekend at No. 22, now sits at No. 11 while Leme closed out Saturday night at No. 21.
The PBR Ontario continues with Round 2 and the championship round on Sunday, November 24, at 11:45 a.m. PT.
Both rounds of action in Ontario, California, will be available LIVE and FREE on RidePass on Pluto TV, PBR’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@pbr), PBR’s mobile app (https://qrco.de/bdtdKp), and PBR’s app on connected TVs, including Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku and Google TV.
