FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 77th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Leonardo Castro (Cassilandia, Brazil) went a perfect 2-for-2 to take home the event buckle.

A rider for the New York Mavericks on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Castro got on the board by riding Bruised (Benton Gonzales) for 80.5 points in the opening round.

Knowing he needed to make the 8 to take home the event buckle, he leapt out of the chutes on Hot Pursuit (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/NIP Ranch/Melton Bull Co) for a round-winning 84.5 points to catapult to the top of the leaderboard.

The victory netted Castro a crucial 56 Challenger Global points with less than a month to go in the 2024 Challenger Season.

First-round winner Andrei Scoparo (Assis Chateaubriand, Brazil) went 1-for-1 to finish second.

A member of the Carolina Cowboys, Scoparo posted an event-high 88 points aboard Hammer Lane (Sweet Life Bucking Bulls) to take an early lead.

Despite being unable to go in the final round, Scoparo earned 36 Challenger Global points for his silver finish and round victory.

Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) and Ky Hamilton (Mackay, Queensland, Australia) both scored 86 points in Round 1 to tie for the final spot on the podium.

The Missouri Thunder’s Cole topped Twisted (Benton Gonzales) for his 86 points while Hamilton matched him on Trigger (Benton Gonzales).

The Aussie looked to overtake Cole aboard Boo Ray (Sweet Life Bucking Bulls) in Round 2 but lost the rope after 7.22 seconds. The Pennsylvania cowboy was similarly dispatched, bucking off Jelly Roll (Sweet Life Bucking Bulls) in 3.09 seconds.

Both garnered 21 Challenger Global points for their efforts Thursday night.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Lance Lara (Snook, Texas).

The Lone Star State cowboy got off to a strong start, riding Smoke City (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co) for 85 points but couldn’t capitalize on Buckwheat (Sweet Life Bucking Bulls) in the final round, bucking off in 2.62 seconds.

Lara returned home with 16 Challenger Global points.

Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings and the Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.

In the bull pen, three bulls from Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co split the Bull of the Event title, as Bad Bob, Damaged Goods and Drago were all marked 43.5 points for their opening round buck offs.

The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, October 10. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
