PUEBLO, Colo. — Western Sports Foundation (WSF) is proud to announce the establishment of the Fon McConnell Be Cowboy Scholarship, a $100,000 endowment created in memory of Fon McConnell, a dedicated fan of Western sports and wife of WSF Board Member Jess McConnell. This scholarship will provide crucial support to rodeo athletes who embody the values of courage, resilience, and the true spirit of the cowboy way of life.

Starting this year, the Fon McConnell Be Cowboy Scholarship will award up to ten $2,000 scholarships annually for the next five years, offering financial assistance to deserving recipients who are pursuing their dreams in the world of Western sports.

“Fon McConnell’s legacy is one of unwavering appreciation and support for the Western way of life,” shared WSF Executive Director Aubrey O’Quin. “This scholarship will honor her memory by supporting the next generation of cowboys and cowgirls, helping them achieve their goals both in and out of the arena.”

The Fon McConnell Be Cowboy Scholarship is open to all current or retired Western sports athletes who demonstrate dedication to the Western way of life, cowboy values, and academic excellence. Recipients will be selected based on their passion for the sport, financial need, and commitment to the values that Fon McConnell held dear.

Applications for the initial disbursement of funds are open now through September 20. Find more details and apply at wsf.org/education-and-careers.
