Texas Ratters remain undefeated at home, beating the Oklahoma Wildcatters during opening night of homestand

New York Mavericks, Arizona Ridge Riders earn mammoth upset wins inside Cowtown Coliseum.

By Kacie Albert

FORT WORTH, Texas – The reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams Champion Texas Rattlers remained undefeated at home Thursday night inside Cowtown Coliseum, as they defeated the Oklahoma Wildcatters with ease, winning bull riding’s version of the Red River Showdown by three ride scores, 262.25-0.00.

Since the launch of the PBR Teams league in 2022, the Rattlers have ridden lights out in Fort Worth, now a flawless 7-0 in game play. They are the only team in the league to have achieved such a feat.

For Texas, they clinched the game win early as they converted in three of the game’s opening four frames. After Brady Fielder rode Desert Twister for 89.25 points in the first, Daniel Keeping dominated Renegade for 87.5 points in the second. For Keeping, the score not only put Texas up by two ride scores but marked his ninth qualified ride in as many attempts.

After being shutout through the opening three frames, Oklahoma faced a must-ride position in the top of the fourth, down by two ride scores with two riders remaining. Unable to rebound, a 4.43-second buckoff from Clay Guiton on Washita Red delivered the win for Texas.

With the win in hand, the Rattlers punctuated their win with an 85.25-point effort from Marcelo Procopio Pereira on Warlock.

At game’s end, Texas shut out Oklahoma, 262.25-0.00, improving to 2-1 against the Wildcatters in 2024.

Texas, now 1-0 at their home event and 13-11 this season, remaining No. 4 in the league, next turn their focus to their Friday night game against their instate rival Austin Gamblers. The showdown marks the final iteration of the Texas Cup in 2024, and is a renewal of the matchup that determined the 2023 Teams Champion.

Oklahoma slipped to 0-1 at the event, now 9-15-1 this season and falling from No. 8 to No. 9 in the league. They will have a bye on the second night of PBR Rattler Days.

Opening night of PBR Rattler Days featured two monster upset wins from the then No. 9 New York Mavericks and No. 10 Arizona Ridge Riders.

The night of bull riding games began with a David vs. Goliath showdown between the then No. 9 New York Mavericks and No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws. A resilient New York unit knocked off the Outlaws by 88.75 points, 175.25-86.5. Via the win, New York took the lead in the 2024 series with the Outlaws, now leading 2-1.

New York captured the lead in the top of the first, compliments of a score from their opener Leonardo Castro, and never looked back. While the Outlaws’ Sandro Batista responded in the bottom of the first, it would not be enough to overtake the lead. New York added a second score in the fourth from 18-year-old young gun Hudson Bolton, and with the Outlaws’ final two men bucked off, won their tenth game of the season.

The Mavericks improved to 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days and 10-14 this season, rising from No. 9 to No. 8 in the league, as they next turn their attention to their Friday night game with the Missouri Thunder. For the Outlaws, now 0-1 at the event and 16-8 this season, still No. 2 in PBR Teams, they will look to rebound on Sept. 27 inside Dickies Arena when they play the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede.

The upsets continued as the No. 10 Arizona Ridge Riders knocked off the No. 3 Florida Freedom by 89.75 points, 267.25-177.5. The win not only snapped Florida’s six-game win streak, but also allowed Arizona to improve to a perfect 3-0 against the Freedom this season.

Arizona’s win was earned courtesy of three consecutive scores at game’s end, including a mammoth 90-point ride from Dener Barbosa to start the team’s scoring streak, followed by 8-second efforts from JaCauy Hale and Keyshawn Whitehorse. Florida was unable to keep pace, as just two of their riders, Yan Victor Cunha and Thiago Salgado converted.

Via the win, Arizona improved to 1-0 at the event and 8-16 this season, remaining No. 10 in PBR Teams, as they next ready to play the league No. 1 Carolina Cowboys, who had a bye on Thursday, as Rattler Days continues. The Freedom, now 0-1 at the event and 14-10 this season, holding onto the league No. 3 rank, will have a bye on Sept. 27.

The Austin Gamblers were led to a come-from-behind, 11.75-point victory against the Nashville Stampede, 175.75-164, courtesy of a crucial fifth-frame score from their closer and two-time PBR Teams MVP Jose Vitor Leme. Courtesy of the win, Austin overtook the series lead against Nashville in 2024, now leading 2-1.

Following the game’s opening three frames, Nashville led by 0.75 points. The Stampede’s Silvano Alves rodeo Powerstroke for 87.5 points, while the Gamblers’ Kaique Pacheco was only marked 86.75 points on re-ride draw I’m Legit Too.

After Austin’s Ramon de Lima bucked off in the top of the fourth, Nashville elected to keep a 76.5-point ride from Cody Jesus, despite being offered a re-ride, leading them to grow their lead to 77.25 points.

The Gamblers then faced a must-ride position in the top of the fifth, turning to two-time PBR World Champion Leme on Geronimo. Answering the call for his team when they needed it most, Leme logged a game-best 89-point ride, putting his team ahead by 11.75 points. Nashville then concluded the game with young gun Kaiden Loud on Blue Suede Shoes, but he was quickly sent airborne at the 2.77-second mark, cementing the win for Austin.

Austin’s win Thursday night improved them to 1-0 at the event and 12-12 this season, while Nashville slipped to 0-1 in Texas and 11-13 across 2024. Both teams solidified their league rank, as Austin remained No. 5 and Nashville stabilized at No. 6.

The evening then concluded with the Shootout Round featuring one rider from each of the winning teams. Austin’s Leme won the special round with a monster 91.5-point ride on Flapjack, while Arizona’s Colten Fritzlan was second after he went the distance on Snuggles for 88.75 points.

Rattler Days next continues at Dickies Arena on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. The competition begins nightly at 7:45 p.m. CDT.

New York Mavericks Earn Stunning Upset Win Against League No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws on Opening Night of PBR Teams Action in Fort Worth, Texas

New York Mavericks: 175.25
Kansas City Outlaws: 86.5

FORT WORTH, Texas – The New York Mavericks began the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event in Fort Worth, Texas, with an upset win Thursday night, outriding the league No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws by 88.75 points, winning the showdown 175.25-86.5. New York began the David vs. Goliath showdown in commanding form. Leonardo Castro gave the Mavericks a quick 87.75-point lead as he went the distance atop Let’s Roll. The Outlaws then turned to their opener Sandro Batista in the bottom of the first to give them a quick response.

Bursting from the chutes inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum on Booker’s Bandit, the reserved Brazilian delivered for his team, marked 86.5 points to inch Kansas City within 1.25 points of tying the game. PBR’s animal athletes then took control of the second and third frames. Neither Mason Taylor nor Davi Henrique de Lima converted for New York, while Koltin Hevalow and Julio Cesar Marques were unsuccessful for Kansas City. Keen to reverse their momentum, and grow their lead to a full ride score, New York tapped 18-year-old rookie Hudson Bolton to attempt Margin of Error. Nodding with confidence, Bolton matched the powerful animal athlete jump-for-jump en route to the whistle as his team burst into celebration.

Marked 87.5 points, Bolton’s qualified ride extended New York’s lead to 88.75 points as Kansas City took to the chutes for their fourth out. Needing a score, it was the Outlaws’ Brennon Eldred on Exodus, but he was whipped down in 6.24 seconds, resulting in no score. The Outlaws’ coaching staff, however, challenged the call, believing the bull fouled himself. Upon review, PBR’s officials found no foul, with the no score remaining in place and Kansas City losing their chance to challenge for the remainder of the game. New York then had the chance to clinch the game win early in the top of the fifth.

In the possible victory cementing moment was the Mavericks’ closer Mauricio Moreira on Ridgeway. After diligent preparation in the chutes, Moreira called for the gate and was quickly sent airborne at the 3.74-second mark. But just as quick as he came down, New York Head Coach Kody Lostroh challenged the call, suspecting the bull fouled himself in the chutes. Much like their opponents the out prior, New York lost their challenge as PBR’s officials upheld the buckoff call made in arena. Kansas City then had the chance to win the game in walk-off fashion.

Needing a score of 89 points to win the game and prevent an upset loss, Head Coach J.W. Hart looked to reigning PBR World Champion Cassio Dias on Down Payment. In uncharacteristic form, Dias was launched in 4.9 seconds, cementing the win for New York. When the dust settled, the Mavericks upset the Outlaws by 88.75 points, 175.25-86.5. Courtesy of the win, New York also took control of their 2024 series against Kansas City, now leading 2-1.

When PBR Rattler Days continues Friday, Sept. 27, the New York Mavericks, now 1-0 at the event and 10-14 this season, having risen one spot in the league standings from No. 9 to No. 8 in the league, will hope their momentum rolls on when they play the Missouri Thunder. For Kansas City, who fell to 0-1 at the event and 16-8 this season, remaining No. 2 in PBR Teams, they will look to rebound when they play the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede.

League No. 10 Arizona Ridge Riders Upset No. 3 Florida Freedom by One Ride Score as PBR Teams Action inside Cowtown Coliseum Began in Texas

Arizona Ridge Riders: 267.25
Florida Freedom: 177.5

FORT WORTH, Texas – As the night of upsets continued Thursday at the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event inside the historic Cowtown Coliseum, the then league No. 10 Arizona Ridge Riders bested the No. 3 Florida Freedom by one ride score, 267.25-177.5, to earn their eighth game win of the season. Via the win, the Ridge Riders remained perfect against Florida in 2024, improving to a perfect 3-0. As the game began, Arizona’s opening out was met with disappointment. While their opener and 2022 PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz thought he had covered Rock ‘n Roll, he was deemed to have slapped the bovine athlete at the 4.11-second mark.

Florida was hopeful their lead-off man Alex Cerqueira would best Ridin’ Salty to give them an early lead, but he was dispatched in a swift 1.94 seconds. The prowess of PBR’s animal athletes was again on full display in the second frame, dealing buckoffs to Arizona’s Eduardo Aparecido and Florida’s Lucas Martins Costa. Keen to rebound, Arizona looked to Dener Barbosa aboard John 14:6 to reverse their momentum and give them an early score. Bursting from the chutes, Barbosa remained in perfect time with the high-flying animal athlete as both he and his team began to celebrate a qualified ride.

The clock, however, had stopped at the 7.91-second mark. Arizona Head Coach Colby Yates quickly challenged the call, and after close inspection, PBR’s officials deemed him to have made the 8 for a monstrous 90 points. Florida matched the momentum in the bottom of the third. The Freedom inched within 2.25 points of the lead courtesy of an 87.75-point ride from Yan Victor Cunha on Hay Ring. The ride-for-ride battle continued in the fourth. Arizona native JaCauy Hale propelled the Ridge Riders to an increased 90.5 points as he dominated Buckshot for 88.25 points. Florida, however, wouldn’t trail for that much for long.

Their fourth-man Thiago Salgado delivered a crucial 89.75-point ride on Mercy to catapult Florida within 0.75 points of the lead. As both teams prepared for the fifth, the scoreboard was controlled by Arizona, 178.25-177.5, with the showdown set to be determined by the closing riders. The Ridge Riders’ tenacity remained on full display in the top of the fifth. Nodding with confidence Arizona’s final rider and 2018 PBR Rookie of the Year Keyshawn Whitehorse rode Cold Creek for 89 points, to intensify the pressure on Florida who trailed by 89.75 points ahead of their final out.

The game then came down to the Freedom’s fifth man, and the No. 1-ranked rider in the 2024 PBR Teams MVP Race John Crimber on Always Been Crazy. After some difficulties in the chutes, Crimber called for the gate. While he was bucked off in 3.38 seconds, Freedom Head Coach, and Crimber’s father, Paulo Crimber challenged the call, suspecting a foul. Upon review, PBR’s officials did not discover a foul, with the no score remaining in place, and Arizona earning their eighth game win of the season. After all 10 outs, Arizona won by a margin of 89.75 points, 267.25-177.5, to improve to 1-0 at PBR Rattler Days and 8-16 this season, still ranked No. 10 in the league.

The Ridge Riders now turn their focus to their Friday night showdown in the Lone Star State against the No. 1 Carolina Cowboys. For Florida, they slipped to 0-1 at the event and 14-10 this season, but remained No. 3 in PBR Teams, and will have a bye on Friday, Sept. 27.

Austin Gamblers Edge the Nashville Stampede by Less than One Ride Score to Begin the PBR Teams Event in Fort Worth, Texas, with a Come-from-Behind Victory

Austin Gamblers: 175.75
Nashville Stampede: 164

FORT WORTH, Texas – Courtesy of a crucial score from closer and two-time PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams MVP Jose Vitor Leme, the Austin Gamblers defeated the Nashville Stampede in come-from-behind form Friday night inside Cowtown Coliseum, beating the league’s 2022 Champions by 11.75 points, 175.75-164. The game began with some dramatics. Austin first took to the chutes as 2018 PBR World Champion Kaique Pacheco attempted Mahan. Pacheco erupted into the arena inside Cowtown Coliseum, and the clock quickly stopped at the 2.83-second mark. Just as quick as the clock stopped, Austin challenged the call, believing the bull caused the buckoff and they earned a re-ride. Upon close inspection, PBR’s officials concurred, with the Gamblers awarded a re-ride.

Nashville then attempted their first bull – three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves on Powerstroke. Giving the Justin McBride-led outfit a qualified ride, Alves propelled his team to an 87.5-point lead. For Alves, the score was his 525th in premier PBR competition, now tying him for third-most all-time alongside 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee. As the second got underway, Austin’s Lucas Divino was called in-arena to have covered Electric Kitty, but the Stampede threw their challenge flag, suspecting he touched the bull. The eagle-eyed Coach McBride was validated, with PBR’s officials deeming Divino to have slapped the bull at 2.1 seconds, with the Gamblers awarded no score. Nashville was unable to grow their lead to two ride scores in the bottom of the second as Anderson de Oliveira came down in 1.61 seconds atop Rowdy. Before the third, Austin’s Pacheco attempted the team’s re-ride draw I’m Legit Too.

Delivering for his team, Pacheco made the whistle for 86.75 points to propel the Gamblers within 0.75 points of the lead. The scoreboard went unchanged through the third, as PBR’s animal athletes proved too much for Austin’s Guilherme Valleiras and Nashville’s Ednelio Almeida. Trailing, the Gamblers were hopeful that Ramon de Lima could give them their first lead of the game, matched up with Whiskey Trip. While Lima initially appeared centered, he was hurtled to the ground in 4.47 seconds, resulting in no score. Nashville, however, reversed their momentum in the very next out. Their fourth-man Cody Jesus rode Midnight Magic for 76.5 points. Electing to keep the score despite being offered a re-ride, Nashville grew their lead to 77.25 points entering the fifth. Austin’s hopes of victory then rested in the hands of two-time PBR World Champion Leme. Settling in atop Geronimo, Leme called for the gate and was a near picture of perfection en route to the whistle.

Marked a game-best 89 points, the Gamblers claimed the game lead by 11.75 points. In the final out of the game, Nashville needed a score from their closer Kaiden Loud on Blue Suede Shoes. The teenage sensation, however, was launched in helicopter fashion at the 2.77-second mark, with Nashville failing to score, delivering the win to Austin. Courtesy of the 11.75-point, 175.75-164 victory, the Gamblers took the lead in their 2024 series against Nashville, now leading 2-1. Austin also improved to 1-0 at the event and 12-12 this season, solidifying their No. 5 rank in the league, next set to play the host Texas Rattlers in the final installment of the Texas Cup on Sept. 27. The Stampede, now 0-1 in the Lone Star State and 11-13 this season, remaining No. 6 in the PBR Teams standings, next play the Kansas City Outlaws when PBR Rattler Days continue.

Texas Rattlers Remain Perfect at Home, Beating the Oklahoma Wildcatters by Three Ride Scores on Opening Night of PBR Teams Homestand in Fort Worth

Oklahoma Wildcatters: 0.00
Texas Rattlers: 262.25

FORT WORTH, Texas – As their third annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series homestand got underway Thursday night in Cowtown Coliseum, the Texas Rattlers remained perfect at home, improving to 7-0 in Fort Worth since the league’s launch in 2022, as they walloped the scoreless Oklahoma Wildcatters by three ride scores, 262.25-0.00. While Oklahoma bucked off in the top of the first, as Eduardo Matos was tossed in 6.04 seconds by Triple Aught, the Rattlers’ championship contending form was on full display in the bottom of the frame.

Currently ranked No. 2 in the 2024 PBR Teams MVP race, Brady Fielder put the Rattlers ahead by a quick 89.25 points as he dominated Desert Twister. As bull riding’s version of the Red River Showdown entered the second round of outs, the Wildcatters suffered their second heartbreaking buckoff when Tate Pollmeier was bested at the 6.8-second mark by Black Ice. The 2023 PBR Teams Champion Rattlers continued to ride in dominant form. In their second out, Daniel Keeping logged his ninth consecutive qualified ride, topping Renegade for 87.75 points, growing the Rattlers lead to 177 points against the scoreless Wildcatters. Oklahoma looked to their third-man Austin Richardson to give them their first points. While Richardson hit the ground in 3.11 seconds on Black Tie, Wildcatters Head Coach J.B. Mauney challenged the call, suspecting a chute foul. Upon close review, PBR’s officials did not see a chute foul, as the buckoff call remained, and Oklahoma lost their challenge for the remainder of the game. Texas’ momentum then came to an end in the bottom of the third.

The Cody Lambert-led squad hit their first road-bump as Claudio Montanha Jr. was tossed by Hell Right in 5.22 seconds. Down by two ride scores with two riders remaining, Oklahoma faced a must-ride position in the top of the fourth. The high-pressure matchup was teenage sensation Clay Guiton on Washita Red. Bursting from the chutes, Guiton initially appeared centered, but was dislodged at 4.43 seconds, cementing the win early for the host Rattlers. With the win in hand, Texas continued to add to their margin of victory. Marcelo Procopio Pereira rode Warlock for 85.25 points in the bottom of the fourth, extending Texas’ lead to 262.25. In their final out, Oklahoma substituted Dustin Herman for Cort McFadden. Herman, however, was not able to prevent a scoreless defeat for Oklahoma, brought down in 4.09 seconds by Rank Frank. While the Texas Rattlers, Fort Worth’s first-ever World Champion sports team, concluded the game with a 3.81-second buckoff from their closer Joao Ricardo Vieira on Bruised Ego, their game win was already solidified, as they left Cowtown having beaten Oklahoma 262.25-0.00.

Via the victory, Texas overtook the series lead against Oklahoma in 2024, now 2-1. Texas, now 1-0 at their homestand and 13-11 this season, remaining No. 4 in the league, will next play their instate rival Austin Gamblers as their homestand continues Sept. 27 at Dickies Arena. The Oklahoma Wildcatters, who slipped to 0-1 in the Lone Star State and 9-15-1 this season, falling from No. 8 to No. 9 in the league, will have a bye on the second night of PBR Rattler Days.
