By Andrew Hatfield

FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 76th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Colton Burkard (Ivanhoe, Texas) went a perfect 2-for-2 to take home the event title.

The only rider to top two bulls Thursday evening, Burkard roared out to an early lead with an event-high 87.5 points on Thumper (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC) for in the opening round.

While already in the lead, the Lone Star State cowboy then rode Stockyards 945 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 82 points in the final round to solidify his spot atop the standings.

The victory netted Burkard a critical 57 Challenger Global points.

In second was Andrei Scoparo (Assis Chateaubriand, Brazil), who went 1-for-1.

A rider for the Nashville Stampede on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Scoparo posted the second-best ride of the evening in the first round, making the 8 aboard Bison (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) for 86 points.

However, that would end up being Scoparo’s only out of the evening, earning him 33 Challenger Global points.

Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil) claimed the final spot on the podium with a 1-for-2 performance, alongside Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts).

Pereira started strong, riding Mega Mind (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC) for 85 points in Round 1.

Looking to catapult to the top of the leaderboard in his final out, Pereira rocketed out of the chutes on CMSR 014 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) but was bucked off after 4.44 seconds.

The bronze finish garnered the veteran cowboy 20.5 Challenger Global points.

Sharing the final spot on the podium with Pereira, Souza was kept off the board in the opening round by Cactus Cocktail (JD Nix Rodeo Co.), who dispatched the New Englander in a quick 2.68 seconds.

Undeterred, Souza battled back to win the second round, riding CMSR 015 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 85 points to match Pereira.

The round win and third-place finish earned Souza 24.5 Challenger Global points.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Carlos Andre de Oliveira (Ipameri, Brazil).

After bucking off Nix 011 (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) in 3.32 seconds, the Brazilian proved his mettle, roaring out of the chutes on Elkins 038 (Philip Elkins) for 84.5 points in Round 2.

The 1-for-2 performance secured Oliveira 18 Challenger Global points.

Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings and the Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.

In the bull pen, the aforementioned Thumper and Lost In The Sauce (Martinez Bucking Bulls, LLC) split the Bull of the Event title after both being marked 44 points in their first-round outs.

The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, October 3. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
