By Kacie Albert

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams No. 1 Carolina Cowboys began their third annual Camping World Team Series homestand in thrilling form, going 4-for-5 as they defeated the No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws by 89.25 points, 349.75-260.5. In addition to improving to 2-1 against Kansas City this season, the Carolina Cowboys clinched one of the Top 6 automatic berths to the 2024 PBR Teams Championship on Oct. 18-20 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The Cowboys began the showdown full throttle, seizing the lead in the bottom of the first and never looking back. Cooper Davis and Derek Kolbaba converted in the opening two frames, propelling Carolina to a 91-point lead against Kansas City, who only received a qualified ride from Maikon Calixto Rocha, entering the third.
Kansas City then closed within 3.75 points of the lead in the third, compliments of a crucial effort from Koltin Hevalow. Despite a stumble by Carolina in the bottom of the frame, the league’s top team would finish strong. Kansas City began the fourth with a buckoff, as Marcus Mast was tossed by Cooter Brown in 4.07 seconds, and Carolina quickly capitalized. In the bottom of the fourth, 2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen dominated Jerry’s Special for 86.75 points, extending the Cowboys’ lead to 90.5 points and forcing Kansas City into a must-ride position.
The game then came down to Outlaws closer Cassio Dias on Dark Thoughts, in need of 90.75 points or more to keep their hopes of victory alive. While Dias made the whistle, his 88.25-point score was not enough, cementing the victory for the host Carolina Cowboys. To conclude the game, Dawson Branton was tapped to attempt a re-ride awarded to Carolina closer Sage Kimzey. Branton punctuated the home team’s victory with an 87-point ride atop Outlaw.
When the dust settled, Carolina widened their lead in the standings, defeating the Kansas City Outlaws by 89.25 points, 349.75-260.5. The Cowboys are now 1-0 at their homestand and 16-4-1 this season, improving to two games ahead of the No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws, who slipped to 0-1 at the event and 15-7 this season following the loss. Carolina now leads the series against the Outlaws in 2024, 2-1.
As PBR Cowboy Days continues on Saturday, Sept. 21, the Cowboys will look to continue their winning ways when they play the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede, while the Kansas City Outlaws will have a bye.
The Texas Rattlers made league history in the second game of the night, delivering the fifth perfect game in PBR Teams history and fourth-highest-scoring game ever as they defeated the Missouri Thunder by three ride scores, 427.5-175.75. The Rattlers, who recorded the first perfect game in PBR Teams history in 2022, now join the Carolina Cowboys as the only two teams in the league to have ever gone a perfect 5-for-5 multiple times.
The Rattlers etched their name in the record books as their starting five, Brady Fielder, Daniel Keeping, Claudio Montanha Jr., Marcelo Procopio Pereira and Joao Ricardo Vieira, all delivered qualified rides.
Courtesy of the perfect performance, Texas is now 1-0 at the event and 11-11 this season, remaining No. 4 in the league. They will next play the Arizona Ridge Riders. Via the loss, Missouri slipped to 0-1 at the event and 9-13 this season, remaining No. 7 in the league.
The Florida Freedom avenged two losses from earlier this season dealt to them by the New York Mavericks Saturday night, beating their Northeast rivals by two ride scores, 262-86.75.
Florida’s win was backed by 8-second efforts from Yan Victor Cunha, Alex Cerqueira and John Crimber, which proved too much for New York’s lone scorer, Leandro Machado, to overcome. Crimber’s score not only supported the Freedom’s win but also propelled him back to the top of the MVP race.
Compliments of the win, the No. 3 Florida Freedom are now a perfect 1-0 at the event and 12-9 this season, next set to play the Austin Gamblers. The No. 8 New York Mavericks, who slipped to 0-1 at the Tar Heel State event and 9-13 this season, will next have a bye.
In the closest game of the night, and a replay of the showdown that determined the 2022 PBR Teams Championship, the Nashville Stampede edged the Arizona Ridge Riders by 0.5 points, 172.75-172.25.
Scores from Nashville’s Anderson de Oliveira and Cody Jesus carried them to victory despite a similar 2-for-5 showing by Arizona, led by rides from Nick Tetz and Dener Barbosa.
Nashville is now 1-0 inside Greensboro Coliseum and 10-12 this season to remain No. 6 in the league. The No. 10 Arizona Ridge Riders slipped to 0-1 at PBR Cowboy Days and 7-14 this season.

Friday night’s event then concluded with the Shootout Round, featuring one rider from each of the winning teams. Florida’s Crimber delivered a monster 90-point ride on Feeds Red River to win the special round. He also extended his lead in the MVP race to 145 points ahead of No. 2 Brady Fielder.

Fielder also converted in the Shootout Round, finishing second for the Texas Rattlers as he topped Mike’s Motive for 88.75 points.

Following the highest-scoring event in Teams history in Anaheim last weekend, the best bull riders in the world remained red hot in North Carolina, going 24-for-44 on Friday night.

SCORE BULLETINS

Florida Freedom Best New York Mavericks by Two Ride Scores on Opening Night of PBR Teams Action in Greensboro, North Carolina

Florida Freedom: 262New York Mavericks: 86.75

As PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams action got underway Friday night in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Florida Freedom defeated the New York Mavericks by two ride scores and 175.25 points, 262-86.75.

As the game began, Florida looked to Alex Cerqueira to give them a quick lead. While he was initially deemed to have bucked off Uncle Jim, Freedom Head Coach Paulo Crimber quickly challenged the call, believing the bull had fouled himself during the out. Upon review, PBR’s officials agreed, awarding Florida a re-ride. In the bottom of the frame, Ederson Santos failed to convert for New York, tossed by Wild Card in 5.66 seconds.

Florida struck first in the top of the second when Yan Victor Cunha gave the Freedom an 87.5-point lead as he made the requisite 8 atop Hay Ring. New York responded with Leandro Machado’s 86.75-point effort atop Buckshot, enabling the Mavericks to close within 0.75 points of tying the game ahead of the third.

After Joao Henrique Lucas was bested by Bangarang in 2.8 seconds, the Freedom attempted their re-ride from the first as Cerqueira returned to the chutes for his pairing with Peterbilt. In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Cerqueira remained in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete, matching him jump-for-jump en route to the whistle, awarded 87 points. Via the score, Cerqueira has now covered seven of his last nine draws. The score allowed Florida to increase their lead to a full ride score and 87.75 points, as the scoreboard read 174.5-86.75.

New York failed to keep pace in the bottom of the third. Hudson Bolton proved no match for Knucklehead, throttled to the ground in 2.37 seconds. The scoreboard went unchanged through the fourth, as PBR’s animal athletes bested both Florida’s Elizmar Jeremias and New York’s Leonardo Castro. As a result, both teams prepared for an intense fifth and final frame.

Florida closer John Crimber first took to the chutes with the chance to clinch the game win early aboard Gunsmoke. Answering the call for his team, Crimber dominated the bull for 87.5 points to cement the win for the Freedom as the team’s lead grew to 175.25 with just one New York rider remaining. The score also returned Crimber to the top of the 2024 MVP race. The win allowed Florida to rebound from two prior losses to New York, as the series record shifted to 1-2.

The game ended with the Mavericks’ fifth man, Mauricio Moreira, atop Peanut, but he was sent airborne at 1.81 seconds.

When the dust settled, Florida won by 175.25 points, 262-86.75. Now a perfect 1-0 inside Greensboro Coliseum and 12-9 this season, the Florida Freedom will play the Austin Gamblers when PBR Cowboy Days continues Saturday, Sept. 21. The New York Mavericks, now 0-1 at in the Tar Heel State and 9-13 across 2024, will have a bye on Saturday night.

Missouri was unable to keep pace as they took their second out inside Greensboro Coliseum, with Felipe Furlan sent airborne by Cash Goblin in a quick 0.54 seconds.

In the third, Texas turned to Claudio Montanha Jr. to deliver the team its third score in as many attempts. Delivering for the Cody Lambert-led outfit, Montanha bested Fierce’s Dirtnap for 87 points, growing Texas’s lead to two ride scores and 169 points. Via the score, Montanha improved to 7-for-9 in league competition since joining the Rattlers earlier this season. Missouri’s response proved to be the top score of the game. Nodding with confidence, Pereira burst from the chutes inside Greensboro Coliseum, gritting his way to the 8-second whistle for an 85.75-point score. The 8-second effort amplified the pressure for Missouri, forcing them into a must-ride position in the bottom of the fourth, trailing by 165.25 points with just two outs remaining. In the high-pressure moment was Dawson Gleaves atop Justified. While Gleaves initially appeared centered, he was throttled to the ground at the 4.8-second mark, delivering the win to Texas.

With the victory in hand, the Rattlers then turned their attention to completing their second perfect game, and what would be the fifth in league history. In the record moment was Texas closer Joao Ricardo Vieira on Homeboy. Remaining in perfect time with the bovine athlete, Vieira reached the whistle as the electric crowd erupted in cheer. His 86.5-point score delivered Texas a perfect game and the fourth-highest-scoring game in PBR history. The 5-for-5 effort marked just the fifth perfect game in PBR Teams. The Rattlers now join the Carolina Cowboys as the only two teams in the league to have delivered multiple perfect games.

At the game’s end, Missouri was unable to rebound as their fifth man, Paulo Eduardo Rossetto, was tossed by Chuck in 6.11 seconds.

The final scoreboard read a 251.75-point Rattlers win, 427.5-175.75. Thus far in 2024, the Rattlers have swept the Missouri Thunder, going a perfect 3-0. League No. 1 Carolina Cowboys Beat No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws by One Ride Score on Opening Night of PBR Teams Homestand in Greensboro, North Carolina

Kansas City Outlaws: 260.5Carolina Cowboys: 349.75

As their third annual PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams homestand got underway Friday night in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Carolina Cowboys showed why they have been ranked No. 1 in the league for nearly the entire season, beating the No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws by one ride score and 89.25 points, 349.75-260.5. With the win, the Cowboys, who went 3-for-5 to capture the victory, clinched one of the Top 6 automatic spots to compete at the PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena on Oct. 18-20.

The game began in tumultuous form for Kansas City. The Outlaws’ leadoff rider, Sandro Batista, appeared to have covered Unhinged, but the clock stopped prior to the 8-second whistle. With Outlaws Head Coach J.W. Hart challenging the call, the out was already in review, with the call of a slap made in-arena upheld. As a result, the Outlaws not only received no score, but they lost their chance to challenge for the remainder of the game. Riding in front of the home crowd for the first time as the league No. 1, Carolina Cowboys opener Cooper Davis responded with a statement ride in the bottom of the first. The 2016 PBR World Champion gave the Cowboys a quick 88.75-point lead as Davis dominated Heavy Hitter.

Kansas City responded in the very next out in the top of the second, inching within 3.25 points as Maikon Calixto Rocha rode Burning Bush for 85 points. Responding in equally fast fashion, Carolina grew its lead back to a full ride score and 91 points as Derek Kolbaba dominated Chacho for 87.25 points in the bottom of the second.

Kansas City then delivered its second qualified ride in as many attempts in the top of the third, as the Outlaws closed within 3.75 points of the lead compliments of Koltin Hevalow’s 87.25-point ride on Rafter P Construction’s Smooth Over It. In the bottom of the third, Carolina stumbled. Team newcomer Trey Benton III registered the team’s first buckoff of the game, launched by Bandito Bug in 3.05 seconds.

While Carolina opened the door for Kansas City to overtake the lead, the Outlaws faltered. The scoreboard went unchanged to begin the fourth following Marcus Mast’s 4.07-second buckoff atop Cooter Brown. Carolina regained their league No. 1 form in the bottom of the fourth. 2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen put on a show for the home crowd inside Greensboro Coliseum, matching Jerry’s Special jump-for-jump en route to a critical 86.75-point score. As a result, both teams turned their attention to the fifth with Carolina leading by 90.5 points, 262.75-172.25.

The Outlaws opened the final frame as 2024 PBR World Champion Cassio Dias faced a must-ride position atop Dark Thoughts, needing 90.75 points or more to have a chance to win the game for Kansas City. While Dias made the whistle, his 88.25-point score was not enough, delivering the win to the host Carolina Cowboys. To conclude the game, Carolina was awarded a re-ride as their closer Sage Kimzey’s draw, Bamboozled, hit the chutes during their out. Dawson Branton was called up to attempt the team’s re-ride, punctuating the victory with the team’s fourth ride, covering Outlaw for 87 points.

At game’s end, Carolina won by 89.25 points, 349.75-260.5, as they improved to 2-1 this season against the Kansas City Outlaws. Remaining No. 1 in the league, the Carolina Cowboys are now 1-0 at their homestand and 16-4-1 this season as they next turn their sights to their Saturday night showdown against the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede.
