FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 75th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Anderson de Oliveira (Novo Mundo, Brazil) put together a flawless 2-for-2 performance to take home the event buckle.
Paired with Love 897 (Chase Love) in the opening round, the 38-year-old veteran of the Nashville Stampede on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series rocketed out of the chutes for 85.5 points to tie for the lead heading into the final round.
There, the Brazilian cowboy became the only rider to make the 8 twice, topping Ghetto Cowboy (Cannon Cattle Co) for 74.5 points to separate himself from the pack atop the leaderboard.
The victory netted Oliveira a critical 46.7 Challenger Global points.
Ednelio Almeida (Cacoal, Brazil), Oliveira’s teammate on the Stampede, came in second place, alongside Christian Clay Oliveira (Iturama, Brazil).
Almeida matched his squad mate aboard King Brute (Blake Sharp) for 85.5 points in the opening round, while Oliveira topped Love K51 (Chase Love) for 85.5 points of his own.
However, both cowboys were bucked off in the second round, as Almeida lost the rope after 6.25 seconds atop Sugar (Cannon Cattle Co), and his fellow Brazilian was similarly dispatched by Barnett Right-Away (Cannon Cattle Co) at 6.42 seconds.
Both cowboys earned 28.7 Challenger Global points for their 1-for-2 performances Thursday evening.
In fourth was Hayden Ferguson (Coldspring, Texas), who also went 1-for-2.
After bucking off JAG Metals Hard Way (Philip Elkins) in 3.37 seconds in the opening round, the Texan battled back in his home state to win the second round courtesy of an 85-point outing on Bosco (Cannon Cattle Co).
The fourth-place finish and round win garnered Ferguson 23 Challenger Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was the Kansas City Outlaws’ Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana).
The veteran made it look easy atop Elkins 914 (Philip Elkins) in Round 1, riding the elite animal athlete for 84.5 points.
Looking to catapult to the top of the leaderboard, Mast thundered out of the chutes on Hot Grease (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in the second round but was dislodged after 4.79 seconds.
Mast left Cowtown Coliseum with 16 Challenger Global points for his efforts Thursday night.
Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings and the Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.
In the bull pen, Rombauer (Blake Sharp) was marked 43.5 points for his 2.92-second buckoff of Lance Lara (Snook, Texas) in the second round to win the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, September 19. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
