Nashville Stampede dominate Austin Gamblers in Anaheim to snap seven-game losing streak

Florida Freedom, New York Mavericks and Kansas City Outlaws record wins on second night of competition at PBR Teams: Anaheim inside the Honda Center.

By Mandi McCary

ANAHEIM, Calif. – During an electric Saturday night at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, the Nashville Stampede (8-12) put up three ride scores to break out of a seven-game losing streak and defeat the Austin Gamblers (10-10), 256.5 - 86.5.

While Nashville righted a skid, the red-hot Texas Rattlers, riding a three-game heater into night two of the second neutral-site PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event of the 2024 season, were snakebitten by the Florida Freedom, 260.25 - 0.

In a battle of the league’s expansion teams, the New York Mavericks overcame the Oklahoma Wildcatters 160.75-150.25.

In the night’s final contest, Kansas City Outlaws’ star Cassio Dias was lights out in another must-ride fifth-frame situation to down the Arizona Ridge Riders 344.25 – 263.00

As the Stampede vs. Gamblers game began, Kaique Pacheco knocked down an 86.5-point ride on Let’s Tango, but Silvano Alves immediately responded with a ride score of 86 points on Fajita, leaving Nashville half a point behind Austin.

After Beefcake bucked off Austin’s Guilherme Valleiras in the top of the second, Anderson de Oliveira took on Army Slasher for the Stampede in the bottom of the frame but was launched to the ground in 3.35 seconds, leaving Austin still .5 ahead.

Austin’s momentum stalled when Ezekiel Mitchell was drilled to the ground in 1.5 seconds by Mesquite, and Ednelio Rodrigues Almeida faltered as well for the Stampede, unable to ride fast-bucking Coach.

In the top of the fourth, the Gamblers’ Ramon de Lima bucked off Corn Pop in 4.81 seconds, leaving the door open for the Stampede to take the lead.

Just a few weeks after joining the Nashville lineup, Cody Jesus was ready for his pairing with Side Hustle. His hard-fought 83.5-point ride was given an option of a re-ride by judges, but since the score put Nashville into the lead and up a bull, Coach Justin McBride held onto it.

With the score sitting in Nashville’s favor at 169.5 to 86.5, the Gamblers were in a must-ride situation as closer Jose Vitor Leme, who had ridden 15 out of 22 bulls so far during the 2024 season, erupted from the chutes on Quick Show. Leme was unseated at 3.71 seconds, spinning through the air. Knowing Nashville had already won the game, Kaiden Loud kept his focus for his ride aboard Desperado. His 87 points punctuated the Stampede’s Saturday night win.

The victory allowed Nashville to climb from No. 10 to No. 8 in the league, now 1-0 in California and 8-12 throughout 2024.

In an uncharacteristic shutout, the Texas Rattlers, who had 12 rides in their past 15 outs in three high-scoring wins, fell to Florida, 260.25-0, allowing the Freedom to move from No. 4 to No. 3 in the league.

In the third meeting of the league’s expansion teams this season, the New York Mavericks beat the Oklahoma Wildcatters by 10.5 points as the final scoreboard read 160.75-150.25. The victory allowed the Mavericks to climb from No. 7 to No. 6 in the league, now 1-0 in California and 9-11 throughout 2024.

The slugfest between Kansas City and Arizona ended with a judge’s decision. After several nail-biting minutes at the end of a ping-pong match of scoring, the officials deemed that Arizona’s Keyshawn Whitehorse did, in fact, hit the ground before the 8, clinching the win for the Outlaws after Cassio Dias knocked down his fourth must-ride score of the season in the top of the fifth. The win allowed Kansas City to hang tight to the No. 2 spot in the league.

The evening then concluded with the Shoot Out Round, featuring one rider from each of the night’s winning teams. Despite a solid 89-point ride aboard Nefarious, Nashville’s Tate Pollmeier was half a point short of the 89.5 points on Flapjack turned in by the Kansas City Outlaws’ surging Sandro Batista, who has made the 8 on 10 of his last 12 bulls. Batista’s Saturday night moved him into the No. 2 spot in the MVP race, bumping Jose Vitor Leme to No. 3.

SCORE BULLETINS

With Three Ride Scores, Nashville Stampede Snap Seven-Game Slump to Defeat Austin Gamblers on Saturday Night at PBR Teams: Anaheim

Nashville Stampede: 256.5 Austin Gamblers: 86.5

As the second neutral-site PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series event of the 2024 season continued on Saturday night in Anaheim, California, at the Honda Center, the Nashville Stampede put up three rides to defeat the Austin Gamblers, 256.5-86.5, snapping a seven-game skid. The loss marked Austin’s tenth defeat of the season.

In the top of the first, Austin’s Ice Man Kaique Pacheco, who stumbled on Friday night, not recording a ride score, was paired with Let’s Tango. Scoring 86.5 points to put Austin on the board first, Pacheco rode his eighth bull out of 20 this season. Answering back immediately aboard Fajita, Silvano Alves brought the heat for the Stampede with an 86-point ride that left Nashville straggling half a point behind Austin.

The Gamblers then turned to Guilherme Valleiras to try to give them their second score but he was bucked off Beef Cake at 3.48 seconds. Eager to put the Stampede up a bull, Anderson de Oliveira took on Army Slasher for the Stampede in the bottom of the second frame, but he was launched to the ground in 3.35 seconds, leaving Austin still .5 ahead.

Austin’s momentum continued to stall in the top of the third as Ezekiel Mitchell was launched by Mesquite after a mere 1.67 seconds. Out next for the Stampede in the bottom of the third, Ednelio Rodrigues Almeida also faltered, unable to ride Coach.

Ramon de Lima then blew out of the chutes on Corn Pop in the top of the fourth, but the Austin man was dispatched at 4.81 seconds. After joining the Stampede lineup in a trade with the Texas Rattlers in August, Cody Jesus stood on the back of the chutes at the Honda Center, ready for his pairing with Side Hustle. His 83.5-point ride was given an option of a re-ride by judges, but since the score pulled Nashville into the lead and up a bull, Coach Justin McBride held onto it.

With the score sitting in Nashville’s favor at 169.5 to 86.5, the Gamblers were in a must-ride situation as closer Jose Vitor Leme, who had ridden 15 out of 22 bulls during the 2024 season, erupted from the chutes on Quick Show. Spinning through the air, Leme was unseated at 3.71 seconds. Knowing his team had already won the game, Kaiden Loud kept his focus on his ride aboard Desperado. His 87 points punctuated the Stampede’s Saturday night win.

When the dust settled, Nashville won by 170 points, knocking off Austin 256.5-86.5. Via the win, Nashville improved to 8-12 this season, moving from No.10 to No. 8 in the league. They are next slated to take on the Oklahoma Wildcatters when gameplay continues from Anaheim on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Gamblers, who held at No. 5 in the standings, now 1-1 in Anaheim and 10-10 in 2024, will look to rebound against the Missouri Thunder.

Florida Freedom Secure 12th Win of 2024 Season with Shut-Out Victory Over the Texas Rattlers on Second Night of PBR Camping World Team Series Action in Anaheim, California

Florida Freedom: 260.25 Texas Rattlers: 0

On Saturday evening in Anaheim, California, the Florida Freedom logged their 12th game win of the 2024 season by putting up three ride scores to dominate the Texas Rattlers, 260.25-0. Texas, who came into the game on a three-game heater, scoring an average of 349.5 points per game, had previously won all three meetings with Florida this season.

The opening frame saw Florida’s Alex Cerqueira put the first points on the board after his matchup with Snoop Dog. His 88.5-point score marked his seventh ride of 14 attempts in the 2024 season. Texas’s Brady Fielder tried to convert on Sweet Train but was dispatched after just 3.45 seconds, leaving the game in Florida’s favor.

In the top of the second, the Freedom matched Joao Lucas Campos with Taylor’s Cowtown Throwdown. Campos burst from the chutes centered, seemingly riding his bovine partner, but red flags flew, giving Florida a re-ride. The Rattlers’ Marcelo Procopio Pereira tried to answer the call to put his team in the lead in the bottom of the second frame but was unsuccessful aboard Brandon. With the buckoff on the second night in Anaheim, Pereira is now 5-for-11 on the season.

In the top of the third, Eric Henrique Domingos attempted Joe Hawk for the Freedom but rolled to the right after a mere 2.92 seconds. Challenging the ride, Ring of Honor recipient and Head Coach Paulo Crimber called for a review due to a foul. Losing the challenge, the no-score held. In the bottom of the frame, Texas suffered its third buckoff of the night as Claudio Montanha Jr. hit the ground at the 4.02-second mark atop Vindicated. Climbing aboard Body Roc for the Freedom, Alfonso Quintino attempted the re-ride for Campos but was unable to convert.

In the top of the fourth, Florida had the chance to hit the gas, put the pressure on and accelerate their lead. The potentially scoreboard-advancing moment was left to Elizmar Jeremias on Short Bus. As the jet-black bovine spun in circles, Jeremias clung tightly to an 84-point ride, his ninth out of 17 outs this season. In the bottom of the fourth, Qynn Anderson was in a must-ride position as he settled in aboard Steel Dragon. After diligent preparations in the chutes, Anderson nodded but came down in 5.17 seconds, clinching Florida’s win.

With the scoreboard reading 173.25-0 in Florida’s favor, Freedom closer and MVP race leader John Crimber knew his team had already won as he stood on the back of the chutes. The league’s No. 1 overall draft pick in 2024 then delivered a picture-perfect 87-point ride aboard Loren’s Dream. The five-on-five showdown was clinched, so the Rattlers decided to substitute Marco Juarez for usual closer Joao Ricardo Vieira, and he was grounded at 2.39 seconds on Commissioner.

Texas fell to Florida, 260.25-0, allowing the Freedom to move from No. 4 to No. 3 in the league. Now 1-1 in California, the Freedom will have a bye on Sunday, Sept. 15. The No. 4-ranked Rattlers, 1-1 inside the Honda Center and 10-10 in 2024, will battle the Kansas City Outlaws on the third day of the second neutral-site event.

After Massive Win on Friday Night, Oklahoma Wildcatters Fall to New York Mavericks on Second Night of Camping World Team Series Games in Anaheim, California

New York Mavericks: 160.75 Oklahoma Wildcatters: 150.25

In a battle of the PBR Teams league’s two expansion teams Saturday night in Anaheim, California, the New York Mavericks recorded their ninth win of the 2024 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series season. Oklahoma suffered their 12th loss of the year, one night after riding four bulls to stun the No. 1 Carolina Cowboys. Marking the third time the two teams have matched up this season, Saturday’s game completed New York’s hat trick of wins against the Wildcatters, 160.75-150.25.

As the game began, Eduardo Matos put up 85 points on Lock ‘n Loaded to give Oklahoma a leadoff score. Leonardo Castro then fired out of the chutes on Warlock for the Mavericks but was unable to convert.

In the top of the second, Oklahoma looked to Cort McFadden aboard Midnight City to give them their second ride, but he couldn’t seal the deal. Leandro Machado stepped up to get the Mavericks in the game in the bottom of the second, conquering Boo Ray for 84.75 points to improve to 5-for-9 this season.

In the third frame, Bob Mitchell, signed to the Wildcatters earlier in the week, took on Blue Diamond for a less-than-ideal 65.25 points but was offered a re-ride. In a business decision to take the lead in the game, 150.25-84.75, Coach J.B. Mauney kept the score. Davi Henrique de Lima was then unsuccessful for the Mavericks aboard Kamikaze.

Tate Pollmeier, who also joined the Oklahoma team earlier in the week and went 2-for-2 on Friday night, was no match for Long One, hitting the ground after 6.25 seconds. In the bottom of the frame, New York’s Hudson Bolton readied for his pairing with Little Tex. The 76-point ride turned all eyes toward Coach Kody Lostroh, who echoed Mauney’s earlier decision to keep the score and move the Mavericks ahead 160.75-150.25.

Oklahoma’s closer Austin Richardson was in a must-ride situation in his pairing with Jet Black. As the crowd gasped, Richardson hit the ground after 5.75 seconds, clinching the win for New York. Father-to-be Mauricio Moreira stood on the back of the chutes, swaying side to side before his matchup with Good To Go. Having ridden seven out of 20 bulls this season, Moreira was all smiles after his buckoff, knowing New York had earned their ninth win of the season.

The Mavericks won by 10.5 points as the final scoreboard read 160.75-150.25 for their win against Oklahoma. The victory allowed the Mavericks to climb from No. 7 to No. 6 in the league, now 1-0 in California and 9-11 throughout 2024. New York will next take on the Carolina Cowboys as gameplay continues on Sunday, Sept. 15. The league No. 7 Wildcatters, 1-1 inside Honda Center and now 8-12 this season, will take on the Nashville Stampede on night two in Anaheim.

Kansas City Outlaws Defeat Arizona Ridge Riders on Second Night of League Gameplay in Anaheim, California

Kansas City Outlaws: 344.25 Arizona Ridge Riders: 263

The second round of neutral-site PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series competition concluded in a back-and-forth slugfest between the Kansas City Outlaws and Arizona Ridge Riders. The Outlaws outlasted the faltering Ridge Riders, 344.25-263, to win their sixth game of the season and remain No. 2 in the league.

In the leadoff role for Kansas City, Koltin Hevalow covered Try Me for 83 points to put the Outlaws in the lead, improving him to 12-for-21 for the season. Trying to step up to the challenge in the opening frame, JaCauy Hale had red flags flying after Cutting Edges Bandit fouled coming out of the chutes. Coach Colby Yates decided that Nick Tetz would later take the re-ride.

As the game continued, Brennon Eldred, 5-for-12 this season heading into Saturday night, was unsuccessful for Kansas City aboard Soul Glo while Eduardo Aparecido closed out the second frame for Arizona by earning his 405th qualified ride, defeating Regulator for 88 points to take the lead for Arizona. Stepping in for Hale, Tetz put Arizona up a bull with an 88-point ride aboard Smoke Down.

As the third frame began and Julio Cesar Marques readied for his ride on Oreo, Kansas City was behind by 93 points. Netting 88.5 points, Marques narrowed Arizona’s lead to a mere 4.5 points. In the bottom of the third, Bruno Carvalho, who had no luck on Friday night, again faltered on American Hustle at 3.41 seconds.

In the top of the fourth, Sandro Batista then launched the Outlaws into the lead, 258.5-176, with his 87-point score on Ghost Face. Arizona refused to back down in the bottom of the frame as the team’s 2022 first-round draft pick, Luciano De Castro, recorded a matching 87-point ride on hopping, skipping, and kicking War Train to put Arizona back in the lead.

With Kansas City sitting four points behind, all eyes turned to reigning World Champion Cassio Dias as he prepared to ride West Coast. Heading into the weekend, Dias was sporting a 54.17% riding percentage after riding 13 out of 24 and 10 of his last 14 thus far in the season. Dias pushed the Outlaws into the lead with a picture-perfect 85.75-point ride. Stepping up for the Ridge Riders in the final ride of the night, Keyshawn Whitehorse was paired with Life Flight. After he hit the ground with the clock reading 7.68 seconds, Coach Yates launched a challenge, but the judges deemed that Whitehorse did, in fact, hit the ground before the 8, clinching the win for the Outlaws.

The win allowed Kansas City to hang tight to the No. 2 spot in the league, now 1-0 in California and 14-6 throughout 2024. Following the victory, the Outlaws will next take on the Texas Rattlers as gameplay continues on Sunday, Sept. 15. The league No. 10 Ridge Riders, 0-2 inside Honda Center and now 7-13 this season, will have a bye on day three in Anaheim.
