STOCKTON, Calif. – As the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Challenger Series Lucky & Blessed PBR Stockton at Adventist Health Arena concluded on Saturday night, California’s own Andy Guzman (Oakdale, California) secured the event win.
In Round 1 of the night, Guzman was paired with Monkey Business (Hawkins Bucking Bulls). Despite his best efforts, the animal athlete dispatched the cowboy after 4.57 seconds.
Seeking redemption heading into the championship round, the 21-year-old California cowboy came bursting from the chutes aboard Cherry Bomb (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls). Guzman recorded the highest score of the event with 89 points, being the only man to go 8 seconds in the Championship Round.
For his 1-for-2 night, Guzman netted 108 Challenger Global points.
Damien Contreras (Valle de las Palmas, Mexico) was right behind Guzman on Saturday night, capturing second place overall.
Contreras was paired with Misunderstood (Julio Moreno Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, collecting 88.5 points for his smooth ride.
He then set his sights on the championship round where, to the California crowd’s dismay, Cowboy Tuxedo (Culp Bucking Bulls) dispatched the Mexico cowboy after just 1.66 seconds.
Contreras collected 78 Challenger Global points for his 1-for-2 effort.
Arizonan William Wright’s (Wickenburg, Arizona) Round 1 matchup set his tone for the evening. His bovine opponent, Lift Me Up (Humpz and Hornz), was no match, and Wright recorded an 85-point ride in the opening round.
The 25-year-old was paired with I’m Him (Leffew Bucking Bulls/ Meza) in the championship round. As he came bursting from the chutes, the animal athlete threw him in a cloud of dust at only 3.94 seconds. I’m Him earned a bull score of 45 points for his efforts, netting him the Bull of the Event title.
Wright earned 54 Challenger Global points for his third-place finish.
Ray Mayo (Clearlake, California) earned a qualified ride aboard Say I Won’t (Thomas Bert) for an 84.5-point score in the opening round.
Despite an early departure from his bovine matchup Whack Attack (Holdener/ Leffew Bucking Bulls) after just 2.85 seconds in the championship round, Mayo secured a fourth-place finish.
The California cowboy earned 38 Challenger Global points in Stockton.
Jadin Hutchens (Rigby, Idaho) rounded out the Top 5 at the Lucky & Blessed PBR Stockton.
With a determined look, Hutchens launched from the chutes in Round 1 aboard Ariat (Humpz and Hornz) for 79 points.
The championship round did not go as planned for the Idaho cowboy as Cyrus (Evan Matthews) bested him after only 1.61 seconds.
His efforts netted him 32 Challenger Global points.
Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings. The Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.
The talented bull riders of the PBR Challenger Series will next head to Charlottesville, Virginia, for PBR Charlottesville at John Paul Jones Arena on Sept. 21.
