Wyatt Rogers leads after opening night of PBR Rochester

Dustin Herman, Dalton Krantz round out Top 3.

By Andrew Hatfield

ROCHESTER, Minn. – After the dust settled inside the Mayo Civic Center for the opening night of PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Rochester, Wyatt Rogers (Hulbert, Oklahoma) sat atop the leaderboard courtesy of a 1-for-2 outing.

A rider for the Kansas City Outlaws on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Rogers roared to an early lead courtesy of an 84-point ride aboard Nitty Gritty (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in the opening round.

Despite being bucked off by Playing With Fire in the second round in 2.98 seconds, the Oklahoma cowboy leads the event heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.

Rogers’ round win netted him 28 Challenger Global points Friday night.

Right on his spurs is Dustin Herman (Dudley Shoals, North Carolina).

Posting the second-highest score in the opening round, Herman topped Apple Butter (Sterk Bucking Bulls) for 80.5 points to get on the board.

Seeking to overtake Rogers, Herman rocketed out of the gate on Dr. Campbell (Nancy Haverty/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in the second round but was unseated after 5.97 seconds.

The North Carolinian left Mayo Civic Center with 18 Challenger Global points.

The final ride of the opening round belonged to Dalton Krantz (Somers, Iowa), who sits in third.

Krantz hung on to Crunch Time (Sterk Bucking Bulls) for 79.5 points in Round 1 but was bucked off by Surprise Package (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in the second round to finish his evening.

The 1-for-2 performance garnered Krantz 16 Challenger Global points.

Fellow Iowan Mason Collins (Oxford, Iowa) finished the evening fourth.

After being bucked off by Right Mixture (C Check Bucking Bulls) in 2.63 seconds in Round 1, Collins was the only rider to convert in the second round, covering Skeeter Peter (Dakota Rodeo/Mark Baker/Clay Struve/Chad Berger) for 66.5 points.

The second-round victory earned Collins 20 Challenger Global points.

Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings. The Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.

In the bull pen, Electric Kitty (Moore Cattle/D&H Cattle Co.), Page 2H (D&H Cattle Company), Moon Juice (Rafter R Bucking Bulls) and Hilton 824 (Silent 7/Hilton Bull Co) were all marked 44 points to split the Bull of the Event title.

The final night of action for PBR Rochester begins at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 24.
