Starting lineups, draw revealed for 2024 PBR Teams: Gambler Days

The (6-5) Austin Gamblers are 5-1 all-time inside Moody Center. Talk about home dirt advantage.

By James Youness

PUEBLO, Colo. – Five weeks of PBR Camping World Team Series action are in the books.

And with just seven events remaining before the 2024 PBR Teams Championship, we’ll already be halfway through the third season of summer action when PBR Teams: Gambler Days concludes.

At this point in the campaign, we’ve seen a lot, but we haven’t seen it all!

From the league’s third perfect game to a red-hot 10-0-1 start from the No. 1 Carolina Cowboys, the camaraderie-driven competition has only exceeded expectations in year three.

This weekend’s hometown Austin Gamblers managed an impressive five-game win streak within the past few events but unfortunately saw their streak come to an end last weekend in Nashville. Ranked No. 3 in the league standings ahead of their showcase inside Moody Center, it’s quite apparent the Gamblers are “All In” once again.

The two-time regular season champs have a gold buckle on their minds. They just need to finish the job when the tour invades T-Mobile Arena Oct. 18-20 for the 2024 PBR Teams Championship.

In Week 6, however, they’ll host each of the league’s nine other squads in Austin, Texas, eventually taking on the New York Mavericks, Texas Rattlers and Missouri Thunder during the three-day showcase down south.

But they’re far from the only team in the middle of the league drama, as the standings literally couldn’t be much closer at this point. Beside the runaway Carolina Cowboys, each of the other nine units could find themselves ranked anywhere from No. 2 to No. 10 depending on how this weekend’s matchups play out.

The No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws are looking like contenders once again. The Missouri Thunder and Texas Rattlers are on their way up the standings, bouncing back from their respective slow starts.

The Oklahoma Wildcatters just might be getting Austin Richardson back in the fold. Jose Vitor Leme is back atop the MVP race. Things are good on tour right now.

Guys are healthy, bulls are bucking and fans are showing up in NUMBERS.

So, while the first five weeks of 5-on-5 drama have provided quite the set of thrills, we’re only getting started as the electricity amps up each and every time these squads hit the chutes!

2024 PBR Camping World Team Series Standings: 1. Carolina Cowboys (10-0-1) 2. Kansas City Outlaws (7-4) 3. Nashville Stampede (7-5) 4. Austin Gamblers (6-5) 5. Missouri Thunder (5-7) 6. Oklahoma Wildcatters (4-6-1) 7. Arizona Ridge Riders (4-7) 8. Texas Rattlers (4-7) 9. Florida Freedom (4-7) 10. New York Mavericks (4-7) Lineups and draw are in for the sixth of 12 regular season showdowns, so we’re taking a closer look at Friday night’s matchups, rematches and beyond, with some additional game preview insights, latest team transactions and everything you need to know ahead of the weekend’s first slate of games!

With the 5-on-5 circuit returning to Austin, Texas, for the third-straight summer, we’re breaking down starting lineups for Friday night’s competition inside Moody Center (With coverage set to begin at 9 p.m. EST via Merit Street).

PBR TEAMS: GAMBLER DAYS STARTING LINEUPS *Denotes a rematch

(7-5) Nashville Stampede vs. (4-7) Florida Freedom Cody Jesus vs. Grey Fox Joao Lucas Campos vs. Down Payment Alan de Souza vs. Let’s Roll Alex Cerqueira vs. The Kraken Ednelio Almeida vs. Barbarosa Conner Halverson vs. Red Reckoning Cody Teel vs. DirtyBru Elizmar Jeremias vs. Black Gold Silvano Alves vs. Coco John Crimber vs. Bangarang TRANSACTIONS The Florida Freedom placed Gavin Hauck on the Injured Reserve List. The Florida Freedom signed Joao Henrique Lucas to the Reserve Roster. Stampede vs. Freedom Game Preview A few weeks ago, the Florida Freedom would’ve been viewed as the favorites here, as John Crimber was doing his thing and teammates were stepping up when needed. On the other side of the spectrum, the Stampede had lost the services of Jess Lockwood and were without Kaiden Loud, who was resting up a hand injury. But as the squads enter Week 6 with drastically different paths, it’s the Stampede who appear to be favorites during Friday’s opener.

We’re not ruling out Crimber returning to form, by any means, as we’ve regularly seen the now 19-year-old put on for his city. And with the talent bringing a rare two-out buckoff streak with him into Moody Center, basic math says he’s due to rebound. Trailing only the two-time PBR Teams MVP himself, Jose Vitor Leme, in this season’s individual aggregate score competition, the youngster has plenty of time to surpass the veteran. He just needs to get a fresh ride streak started, which could very much help spur some momentum for his red, white and blue squad. However, riding as the team’s closer in 2024, most of the games he’s participated in have already been decided.

For the Stampede, who just turned in a 2-1 record at PBR Teams: Stampede Days as the most recent team to take advantage of their respective homestand and hometown crowd, the veteran-savvy team has looked damn good, now 4-1 in their last five games. Up to 7-5 overall and currently occupying the league’s No. 3 rank, they have the same seven wins that the No. 2 Kansas City Outlaws do, just one extra loss to go with them. It’s been the old heads regularly holding down the fort, no doubt. But with Kaiden Loud back in the picture, who can arguably ride bull-for-bull alongside his good friend Crimber when healthy, this is going to be one hell of an event-opener!

(4-7) Arizona Ridge Riders vs. (4-6-1) Oklahoma Wildcatters Nick Tetz vs. Lights Out Eduardo Matos vs. Flyin Wired *Eduardo Aparecido vs. Tulsa Time Kase Hitt vs. Air Marshall Luciano De Castro vs. Mercy Austin Richardson vs. Beef Cake Keyshawn Whitehorse vs. Fire Magic Josh Frost vs. Gaucho Eli Vastbinder vs. Smooth Criminal Cort McFadden vs. Blown Away REMATCHES Eduardo Aparecido (2.65 points in Fort Worth, Texas; 4.29 seconds in Kansas City, Missouri; 90.5 points in New York, New York) TRANSACTIONS The Oklahoma Wildcatters placed Austin Richardson on the Reserve Roster from Injured Reserve. Ridge Riders vs. Wildcatters Game Preview Had the Oklahoma Wildcatters not tied the Carolina Cowboys a few weekends back, they and the Arizona Ridge Riders would be sporting the same records in Week 6. Arizona, however, does currently share the same 4-7 slate with three other teams right now as they sit half of a game back from Oklahoma. So, while all of the games this weekend and the rest of circuit, honestly, will have big implications, we could literally be staring down a potential matchup inside South Point Casino, Hotel & Spa Oct. 17, as these squads are right on the postseason cutline as things sit today.

Littered with accomplished veterans left and right, the Ridge Riders have too much talent to be sitting amongst the league’s basement dwellers. Then again, each of the nine other squads feel damn confident about their own squads, and it’s been showing, so the mediocre start is likely more due to league parity than anything Arizona is or isn’t doing. That said, Keyshawn Whitehorse has cooled off a bit since his hot start. Veterans Eduardo Aparecido and Luciano De Castro continue their mid-season struggles as well and while they got Nick Tetz back from the Excused Absence List last weekend, a lower-body injury kept him out of the Week 5 lineup. He’s back and ready to roll in Week 6 though, primed for a matchup against Lights Out.

The Wildcatters are bringing a three-game losing streak into Austin, something they’ll look to ditch by stringing a few wins together, starting this weekend. With Josh Frost back in the lineup for the first time since Aug. 9, Head Coach J.B. Mauney will lean on his veteran once again to help anchor the lineup. But it’s Cort McFadden who remains the team’s closer after besting Big Chili last weekend in Nashville. Now 6-for-10 on the season, he and Eduardo Matos (6-for-11) continue to pace the team with six qualified rides. Which is a good thing, technically, as only seven of the league’s ten squads roster riders who have hit the six-ride mark so far. Set to dance with Beef Cake in Game 2, fans should keep an eye on Austin Richardson, who's making his 2024 debut Friday night as a late-week addition to the already-talented lineup.

(7-4) Kansas City Outlaws vs. (4-7) Texas Rattlers Sandro Batista vs. Ugly This *Brady Fielder vs. Mike’s Motive Koltin Hevalow vs. Dirt Hairy Deeds Daniel Keeping vs. Spice Maikon Calixto Rocha vs. Down to Fly Qynn Andersen vs. Lightning Show Julio Cesar Marques vs. Buck Nasty Brady Oleson vs. Fast Flow Cassio Dias vs. Boujee Boy Joao Ricardo Vieira vs. Stryker REMATCHES Brady Fielder vs. Mike’s Motive (90 points in Milwaukee, Wisconsin) TRANSACTIONS The Kansas City Outlaws placed Marcus Mast on the Reserve Roster from the Protected Roster. The Kansas City Outlaws placed Maikon Calixto Rocha on the Protected Roster from the Reserve Roster. The Kansas City Outlaws removed Heitor Santos Ferreira from the Excused Absence List and placed him on the Reserve Roster. Outlaws vs. Rattlers Game Preview The Kansas City Outlaws and Texas Rattlers may be bringing opposite records into Friday’s second showdown but they are much closer in talent than their respective results suggest. In one corner you have the defending PBR Teams Champion Texas Rattlers, who are coming into the Week 6 showcase fresh off a pair of productive wins in Nashville. In the other, 2024 World Champion Cassio Dias and his streaking Kansas City Outlaws, who are on a three-game heater of their own. One of the runs have to come to an end, which means one of them survives on to Saturday’s slate! The records suggest it’s the Outlaws who will be favored, but Joao Ricardo Vieira has been enjoying his recent role as the team’s closer.

Providing not one, but two walk-off wins for his Rattlers squad last weekend, he and youngster Kaiden Loud of the Nashville Stampede provided some heroic finishes in sealing the deal.

Officially 5-for-9 on the season and riding more than 50% of his bulls, the 40-year-old reigning PBR Teams Championship MVP has been knocking them down lately. If he can keep this hot streak going aboard Stryker Friday, keep an eye out for an upset inside Moody Center. Especially with Brady Fielder breaking out of a down stretch last weekend, now set to dance with Mike’s Motive.

Across the chutes, Dias and company await a quality challenge. And after seeing the world's top-ranked rider get back in the swing of things last weekend with one of the fiercest dances of the summer, J.W. Hart's squad is swinging for the fences as they look to defend their No. 2 spot. Of the five Outlaws' riders set to give it a go, Julio Cesar Marques is the only one who hasn't been deemed "on fire" already this summer, with Koltin Hevalow, Dias and Sandro Batista taking turns looking dominant. Hell, even the rookie Maikon Calixto Rocha looked good during his 5-on-5 debut last weekend. Expect the outlaws to get three rides on the board Friday night.

(4-7) New York Mavericks vs. (6-5) Austin Gamblers Hudson Bolton vs. Barracuda *Dalton Kasel vs. Ridin’ Salty Leonardo Castro vs. All Hat No Rattle Kaique Pacheco vs. Constant Payne Davi Henrique de Lima vs. Mongo *Ezekiel Mitchell vs. Mama’s Boy *Braidy Randolph vs. Ghost Face Ramon de Lima vs. Locomotive *Mauricio Gulla Moreira vs. Triple Aught Jose Vitor Leme vs. Haymaker REMATCHES Braidy Randolph vs. Ghost Face (1.71 seconds in Fort Worth, Texas) Dalton Kasel vs. Ridin’ Salty (4.50 seconds in Tulsa, Oklahoma) Ezekiel Mitchell vs. Mama’s Boy (3.47 seconds in Chicago, Illinois) Mauricio Gulla Moreira vs. Triple Aught (2.25 seconds in Louisville, Kentucky) TRANSACTIONS The New York Mavericks placed Romario Leite on the Excused Absence List

Mavericks vs. Gamblers Game Preview How much is there to say about the No. 3 Austin Gamblers preparing to host the No. 10 New York Mavericks? A ton, technically, as the expansion squad unit hailing from up north has been competing with the pack despite being pretty banged up and new to this thing as a whole. And when you consider the usually-dominant Austin contingent went 1-2 last weekend and is just one game above .500 at 6-5, Game 4 could be one of the more entertaining contests on tap.

Davi Henrique de Lima remains the Mavericks’ only rider to record three conversions this season. He’s also the team’s highest-ranked rider in the MVP race, currently slotted in at No. 33. Which is not what Kody Lostroh and company want to see five weeks into the summer series. Four guys appear stuck at the two-ride mark right now. Rookie Hudson Bolton wasn’t able to follow up his flashy 2-for-2 debut inside Barclays Center last weekend but has chance to set the tone during the game’s first overall out against Barracuda. Braidy Randolph is back in the lineup after sitting out last weekend’s PBR Teams: Stampede Days, now set to dance with Ghost Face in a rematch showdown. Ultimately they’ll likely need three rides, and potentially flashy ones, if they want to keep pace with the hometown Gamblers Friday.

Knowing the last time the circuit invaded Moody Center, the Austin Gamblers’ Ezekiel Mitchell concluded the weekend with an epic conversion, thus sending confetti throughout the venue as the hometown crowd celebrated, this weekend’s fanbase expects greatness from the Gamblers. The bull Mitchell was aboard during that trip? Haymaker. The man attempting said bovine athlete during Friday night’s finale? Two-time PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme, who’s been pretty successful lately. Mitchell will instead challenge Mama’s Boy in a rematch effort, with the bull initially sending him to the dirt in 3.47 seconds earlier this year. Dalton Kasel also has a rematch to attend, set to dance with Ridin’ Salty, who’s been making some waves here this summer. The matchups won’t be nearly as impactful as the anticipated energetic audience though, so it’s hard not to take the Gamblers in their 2024 home debut.
