Florida Freedom stumble in home debut, fall to New York Mavericks inside Amerant Bank Arena
League No. 1 Carolina Cowboys remain undefeated, improve to 6-0 via victory against Missouri Thunder.
SUNRISE, Fla. – As the Florida Freedom made their PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series home debut Friday night in Sunrise, Florida, the Paulo Crimber-led squad was unable to rally past the New York Mavericks, falling by less than one ride score inside Amerant Bank Arena.
While New York jumped to an early lead in the top of the first courtesy of a score from Mauricio Moreira, the Freedom were also electric in the opening frame as they logged points from Caden Bunch. As a result of the back-to-back scores, Florida was within 3.5 points of tying the game ahead of the second.
After neither team covered in the second or third, Braidy Randolph delivered what proved to be the game-winning ride for the Mavericks in the top of the fourth, giving New York an 88.75-point lead.
Joao Lucas Campos converted for Florida in the team’s very next out, but his re-ride eligible, 71-point ride was not enough to put them ahead. As a result, Florida trailed by 17.75 points ahead of the fifth.
New York did not have enough to win the game early, as their closer Leandro Machado bucked off Taz in 5.6 seconds, opening the door for a walk-off Florida victory. In the must-ride position was teenage phenome John Crimber. Crimber, who was 4-for-4 coming into the game, faltered for the first time this season, bucking off Kodiac in a hard-fought 7.24 seconds, delivering the win to New York, 174.5–156.75.
The victory on the opening night of Freedom Days allowed the Mavericks to improve to 2-4 this season, rising from No. 10 to No. 9 in the league. They will look to continue their momentum when PBR Freedom Days continues on Saturday, Aug. 3 when they play the Arizona Ridge Riders.
Florida, now 0-1 at home and 1-4 this season, will look to rebound when they next play the Oklahoma Wildcatters.
The league No. 1 Carolina Cowboys’ white-hot momentum continued to roll Friday evening in Florida as they remained undefeated, improving to a perfect 6-0 in 2024 in beating the Missouri Thunder by 83 points, 262-179.
Carolina jumped to an early lead in the top of the first, compliments of a mammoth score from 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis, and never looked back. With Adriano Salgado and Daylon Swearingen adding scores in the third and the fourth, Carolina clinched the game win early.
While Grayson Cole and Paulo Eduardo Rossetto both converted for the Thunder, it was not enough to overcome the Cowboys’ three rides.
Paulo Rossetto Finishes with a Bang: 90.5 on Eyes On Me for Missouri Thunder
Carolina, now 1-0 in Florida, and 6-0 this season, will have a bye when PBR Freedom Days continues.
Missouri slipped to 0-1 in Florida and 2-4 this season via the loss, also falling from No. 6 to No. 8 in the league. They next play the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede.
The J.B. Mauney-led Oklahoma Wildcatters rode to victory Friday evening, beating the Kansas City Outlaws by 90.25 points, 264.75-174.5. While the Outlaws jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first courtesy of a score from Sandro Batista, the Wildcatters quickly took it back in the top of the second via a ride from Eduardo Matos, never relinquishing the lead again.
While the Outlaws briefly inched within 0.5-point of the lead, Josh Frost delivered a crucial ride in the top of the fifth to force Kansas City into a must-ride position, needing a score of 90.5 points or more from closer Cassio Dias to win the game. While Dias earned a re-ride on his initial bovine athlete opponent, he then uncharacteristically came down in 4.89 seconds atop his second bull to deliver Oklahoma the win, 264.75–174.5.
Oklahoma improved to 4-2 this season and also rose from No. 4 to No. 2 in the league. The Kansas City Outlaws, now 0-1 in the Sunshine State and 3-3 this season, will have a bye when PBR Freedom Days continues Saturday, Aug. 3. They remained No. 5 in the league.
The two-time regular-season Champion Austin Gamblers also registered a one ride score win Friday night, beating the Arizona Ridge Riders by 88.25 points, 260.75-172.5. The win allowed Austin to climb from No. 9 to No. 6 in the league.
The Gamblers’ victory was headlined by scores from Kaique Pacheco, Callum Miller and Jose Vitor Leme, which proved enough to best those efforts delivered from the Ridge Riders’ Eli Vastbinder and Keyshawn Whitehorse.
Austin is now 1-0 in Florida and 2-3 this season, next scheduled to play the league’s reigning Champion Texas Rattlers on Saturday, Aug. 3 in the first edition of the 2024 Texas Cup. Arizona fell to 0-1 at PBR Freedom Days and 3-3 in 2024, slipping from No. 2 to No. 4 in the league.
