By Andrew Hatfield

FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 69th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Guilherme Valleiras (Pirassununga, Brazil) went 1-for-2 to win the event title.

A member of the Austin Gamblers on the separate PBR Camping World Team Series, Valleiras was bucked off by All Hat No Rattle (Flying S Bucking Bulls) in 3.54 seconds in the opening round.

Undeterred, the Brazilian battled back in the final round, covering Barracuda (Flying S/5S Ranch) for an event-high 87 points to take home the event buckle.

The victory netted Valleiras 46 Challenger Global points.

In second was veteran Claudio Montanha Jr. (Ribeirao dos Indios, Brazil).

The 35-year-old cowboy showed his grit after being unseated by Killer Instinct (Rafter G Rodeo) in 5.12 seconds in Round 1, topping Zebulon (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 85 points in Round 2.

The silver finish earned the Brazilian a crucial 33 Challenger Global points.

The final spot on the podium was split between the Nashville Stampede’s Gavin Knutson (Polson, Montana) and the Missouri Thunder’s Felipe Furlan (Sales Oliveira, Brazil).

Knutson got off to a strong start, winning the opening round courtesy of an 84.5-point outing aboard Jenkins 151 (Rafter G Rodeo).

Unfortunately for the Montanan, he was unable to hang on to Screaming Eagle (Flying S Bucking Bulls) in Round 2, losing the rope after 2.42 seconds.

Furlan was dispatched by Rufus (Rafter G Rodeo) in Round 1 but rebounded to tie Knutson for third atop CMSR 010 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) in his final out.

Knutson gained 24.5 Challenger Global points for his bronze finish and round win while Furlan garnered 20.5 points of his own.

Rounding out the Top 5 was Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts).

Despite being unseated by All Nighter (Rafter G Rodeo) in Round 1, the New Englander stormed out of the chutes on Silver Lining (Stockyards Pro Rodeo/Winston/Melton Bull Co) for 84 points to seize fifth.

Souza left Cowtown Coliseum with 16 Challenger Global points for his performance.

Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings and the Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.

In the bull pen, Lap Dancer (Flying S Bucking Bulls) was marked 44 points for his 3.51-second buck off of Lance Lara (Snook, Texas) to take home the Bull of the Event title.

The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, August 8. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
