Carolina Cowboys make history in Oklahoma City, logging the third perfect game in highest-scoring game in PBR Teams competition

Oklahoma Wildcatters suffer narrow defeat Saturday evening inside Paycom Center, falling to the Arizona Ridge Riders by 1.25 points.

By Kacie Albert

OKLAHOMA CITY – The second night of PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Wildcatters Days, presented by Travel Oklahoma, inside Paycom Center in Oklahoma City began in historic form. The Carolina Cowboys delivered the third perfect game in league history as they defeated the Florida Freedom, 448-343.75.

Carolina’s perfect game was achieved as Cooper Davis, Derek Kolbaba, Adriano Salgado, Daylon Swearingen and Sage Steele Kimzey all made the whistle, with both Salgado and Kimzey logging monstrous 90-point rides.

The game is now the top-converting five-on-five showdown ever, as the Cowboys and Freedom combined to go a torrid 9-for-10. The Cowboys’ 448-point total is now the highest ever by one team in PBR Teams history, while the combined 791.75 points is also the most ever in a league game.

“These guys, they’ve got it,” said Cowboys Head Coach Jerome Davis. “I’m pumped – best team we’ve ever had. I’m looking forward to this season.”

The lone buckoff of the game made history as well when 2024 YETI World Champion Bull Man Hater dispatched the Freedom’s Casey Roberts. Man Hater was marked a mammoth 48.75 points, which now ties for the third-highest bull score in PBR history and is the highest bull score ever logged in the PBR Teams league.

The Cowboys will look to continue their momentum and improve to a perfect 2-0 when they play the New York Mavericks on Sunday, July 14, while the Florida Freedom will look to better their record to 1-1 when they take on the Nashville Stampede.

The host Oklahoma Wildcatters were narrowly defeated Saturday evening, falling to the Arizona Ridge Riders by 1.25 points, 172.5-171.25. Despite early scores from Kyler Oliver and Cort McFadden, the Wildcatters trailed ahead of the final out of the game after Nick Tetz and Keyshawn Whitehorse delivered for the Ridge Riders.

The Wildcatters’ Kase Hitt had the opportunity to deliver a walk-off win in front of a home-state crowd, but he was sent airborne in a heartbreaking 7.04 seconds.

Oklahoma is now 1-1 in 2024 and will take on the Austin Gamblers when their inaugural homestand concludes. The Arizona Ridge Riders concluded their outing in Oklahoma City with a perfect 2-0 record as they ready for their first bye of the season.

The reigning PBR Teams Champion Texas Rattlers regained their title-winning form Saturday night. Rebounding from a loss to the home Oklahoma Wildcatters the night before, they beat the Missouri Thunder by three ride scores, 261.25-0.

The Rattlers’ victory was delivered by Marcelo Procopio Pereira, Joao Ricardo Vieira and Brady Fielder, who all reached the whistle.

While the Rattlers will have a bye on the final night of PBR Teams competition in the Sooner State, the Thunder will look to conclude the first event of the season with a victory against the Kansas City Outlaws.

The Nashville Stampede were the final team victorious Saturday evening. Compliments of a key score from Mason Taylor, they beat the New York Mavericks 84.25-0. Nashville is now 1-1, while the Mavericks are 0-2.

Competition then concluded with the four-rider Shootout Round featuring one rider from each of the winning teams. With no one making the 8, the prize pool rolled forward to the Shootout Round that will conclude PBR Wildcatters Days on Sunday, July 14.

PBR’s Oklahoma Wildcatters Days, presented by Travel Oklahoma, concludes Sunday, July 14, at 1:45 p.m. CT. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com and PBR.com, at the Paycom Center Box Office, or by calling PBR customer service at 1-800-732-1727.

Carolina Cowboys Log Third Perfect Game in League History, Defeating the Florida Freedom on Second Night of Camping World Team Series Action in Oklahoma City

Carolina Cowboys: 448 Florida Freedom: 343.75

OKLAHOMA CITY – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series history was made Saturday night in Oklahoma City as the Carolina Cowboys delivered just the third perfect game ever, defeating the Florida Freedom 448-343.75. The Carolina Cowboys now join the Texas Rattlers and Arizona Ridge Riders as the only teams to have ever gone a perfect 5-for-5 in the 274 PBR Teams games played to date. The game, which marked the season debut for both squads following byes when the 2024 campaign began Friday night, was also the first time in history the competing teams went a combined 9-for-10 against their bovine athlete opponents.

The game began in electric form in the top of the first. The Cowboys’ opener and 2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis gave his team an early 87.25-point lead as he covered Mikey’s Surprise. Florida, however, was quick to respond. Caden Bunch propelled the Freedom to a 2.25-point lead in the bottom of the frame, covering Seth Wadley’s No Bull for 89.5 points.

In the top of the second, Derek Kolbaba made his debut for the Carolina Cowboys after being acquired via trade from the Florida Freedom in the offseason. Answering the call for Carolina, he returned his team to the lead as he bested Wild Card for 88.5 points. Down by 86.25 points, the Freedom looked to Thiago Salgado atop Brown Bomber in the bottom of the second. After being put on the clock, Salgado nodded confidently with just 2 seconds remaining on the clock. Fighting to remain in the center, Salgado initially appeared to have made the requisite 8, but the clock had stopped at the 4.61-second mark for a slap. Following Florida’s challenge by Head Coach Paulo Crimber, PBR’s officials reviewed the clock, ruling that Salgado did log a qualified ride, awarding him 87.5 points to give the Freedom back the lead by 1.25 points.

The top of the third then featured Salgado’s elder brother, Adriano Salgado, making his debut for Carolina. As the ride-for-ride battle continued, Salgado logged the first 90-point ride in gameplay for the 2024 season, covering Flyin Wired for a monstrous 93 points. The mammoth score gave Carolina the largest lead of the game to that point, 91.75 points. In the bottom of the third, Florida continued to keep pace. Elizmar Jeremias inched the Freedom within 6.75 points of the lead as he rode Ruthless for 85 points.

In the fourth, Carolina looked to 2022 PBR World Champion Daylon Swearingen, while it was Casey Roberts up for the Freedom. Carolina continued to ride in unstoppable form as Swearingen grew the Cowboys’ lead to 95 points courtesy of his 88.25-point ride on Homeboy. For the first time on Saturday night, the Freedom were bucked off, as Roberts was unable to conquer reigning PBR World Champion Bull Man Hater, sent to the dirt in 3 seconds. While the out was deflating for the Freedom, it further etched Man Hater’s name in the PBR record books. Awarded a head-turning 48.75-point bull score, the score is now tied for the third highest in PBR history and is the highest bull score ever logged in the PBR Teams league.

In the fifth, Carolina’s hopes of a perfect game came down to seven-time PRCA champion Sage Steele Kimzey on Killer Bee. Nodding with confidence, Kimzey made the requisite 8 with ease as the crowd went wild. Awarded an impressive 91 points, the score not only cemented the perfect game for Carolina but also clinched their victory against the Freedom. While the fate of the game was decided, the Freedom still had one out remaining. In his PBR Teams debut, teenage phenom John Crimber delivered, riding Black Jacket for 81.75 points.

At the end of the torrid game, the scoreboard read 448-343.75 as Carolina improved to 1-0, while Florida slipped to 0-1. The Cowboys’ 448-point score total is now the highest ever by one team in PBR Teams history, while the combined score from the Cowboys and Freedom is now also the highest-ever in a game in the league.

When the PBR’s Wildcatters Days, presented by Travel Oklahoma, concludes on Sunday, July 14, the Cowboys will play the New York Mavericks, while the Freedom will look to rebound when they play the 2022 PBR Teams Champion Nashville Stampede.

Reigning Champion Texas Rattlers Defeat Missouri Thunder on Second Night of PBR Camping World Team Series Action in Oklahoma City

Texas Rattlers: 261.25 Missouri Thunder: 0.00

OKLAHOMA CITY – The reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams Champion Texas Rattlers’ title-winning form was on full display Saturday night as they beat the Missouri Thunder 261.25-0 on the second night of Camping World Team Series gameplay in Oklahoma City.

During the opening frame inside Paycom Center, the Thunder were bested as leadoff rider Felipe Furlan was tossed by Sorrel’s Pick in 3.63 seconds. While the Rattlers did not add points in the bottom of the first, they were awarded a re-ride after Punchy Pete fouled himself during his out with Brady Oleson.

The Thunder continued to falter in the second as 2020 PBR World Finals event winner and team newcomer Boudreaux Campbell was upended by Rafter P Constructions Cold Creek in 5.19 seconds. The chain of buckoffs then came to an end in the bottom of the second as Marcelo Procopio Pereira gave the Rattlers an 84.25-point lead as he lasted the requisite 8 on Cutting Edges Bandit.

The scoreboard then went unchanged throughout the third as Grayson Cole was unsuccessful for Missouri and Jesse Petri didn’t hear the whistle for Texas. Before the fourth frame, veteran Joao Ricardo Vieira attempted Texas’s re-ride, tasked with Peterbilt. In what proved to be a perfect pairing, Vieira matched the bull jump-for-jump, marked 88.25 points, raising Texas’ lead to two ride scores and 172.5 points.

Missouri then faced a must-ride situation in the top of the fourth. While Andrew Alvidrez rode Miller Time for 84.75 points, he was awarded a re-ride, which the Thunder elected to take. Texas then had the chance to clinch the game win early in the bottom of the penultimate frame, but Qynn Andersen proved no match for Ghost Face, slammed to the dirt in 3.33 seconds.

For the second time Saturday evening, Missouri was again in a must-ride position in the top of the fifth. Paulo Eduardo Rossetto initially appeared centered on Cy Young, but the bovine athlete ultimately got him unseated, bringing him down in 2.78 seconds to deliver the victory to Texas. After Alvidrez was bested by Missouri’s re-ride bull Lapua in 3.3 seconds, the Rattlers concluded the game with their third score of the night, as Brady Fielder bested Dark Thoughts for 88.75 points.

Courtesy of the three-ride win, the Rattlers improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Missouri Thunder slipped to a matching 1-1. When gameplay for PBR Wildcatters Days, presented by Travel Oklahoma, concludes on Sunday, July 14, the Rattlers will have a bye, while the Thunder will look to conclude the season-launch event with a victory against the Kansas City Outlaws.

Nashville Stampede Earn First Win of the 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series Season, Defeating the Scoreless New York Mavericks Saturday Night in Oklahoma City

Nashville Stampede: 84.25 New York Mavericks: 0.00

OKLAHOMA CITY – The 2022 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Teams Champion Nashville Stampede rebounded Saturday evening in Oklahoma City, winning their first game of the 2024 campaign as they knocked off the New York Mavericks, 84.25-0.

The game began with the Stampede’s Ednelio Almeida tasked with Wingman. While he came down before the 8-second whistle, his Head Coach Justin McBride challenged the call, believing the bull fouled himself. Upon review, PBR’s officials agreed with McBride, awarding Nashville a re-ride. In the bottom of the first, the New York Mavericks’ Vitor Losnake was also brought down early, bested by Body Roc, leading his coaches Kody Lostroh and Ednei Caminhas to challenge the call, suspecting a foul. PBR’s judging team, however, did not agree, with the no-score remaining, leading New York to lose their ability to challenge for the remainder of the game.

After the scoreboard went unchanged through the second, the Stampede turned to Mason Taylor to right their momentum. Answering the call for his team, Taylor covered Norse God to give his team an 84.25-point lead. Hoping to match their opponent’s momentum, the Mavericks again came up short in the bottom of the third as Maverick Smith was upended by Big Chili in 3.62 seconds.

The fourth was again a scoreless frame, including the Stampede’s re-ride attempt, setting up a crucial fifth and final round of outs. First out was Nashville closer and three-time PBR World Champion Silvano Alves, who had the chance to clinch the game win early. Alves, however, couldn’t convert, coming down in a close 6.59 seconds on Mesquite. With a renewed shot at victory, New York turned to Braidy Randolph to deliver the come-from-behind win. After struggling in the chutes atop Stone Cold Gangster, Randolph was put on the clock. Failing to nod before the clock expired, Randolph was disqualified, resulting in a no-score and delivering the win to Nashville.

Via the 84.25-0 win, Nashville improved to 1-1 in 2024 and will next play the Florida Freedom when PBR Wildcatters Days, presented by Travel Oklahoma, concludes on Sunday, July 14. The New York Mavericks, now 0-2, will seek their first game win when they play the Carolina Cowboys.

Oklahoma Wildcatters Narrowly Beaten by Arizona Ridge Riders on Second Night of PBR Camping World Team Series Homestand inside Paycom Center

Arizona Ridge Riders: 172.5 Oklahoma Wildcatters: 171.25

OKLAHOMA CITY – On the second night of the team’s inaugural PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Camping World Team Series homestand, the Oklahoma Wildcatters suffered a narrow defeat, falling to the Arizona Ridge Riders by a mere 1.25 points.

As the showdown between two winning teams from Friday night got underway, Arizona jumped to an early lead in the top of the first as Nick Tetz rode El Dorado for 86 points. In the bottom of the frame, Oklahoma was unable to answer as Eduardo Matos was launched by Rafter P Constructions The Show in 3.4 seconds.

Arizona then looked to veteran Eduardo Aparecido to extend its lead, but he proved no match for American You, brought down in 5.86 seconds. Next out was the Wildcatters’ Kyler Oliver. Nodding with confidence on Spotted Demon, Oliver covered the bull with ease, awarded 84.5 points to pull his team within 1.5 points of the lead.

The Ridge Riders again struck out in the top of the third as 2021 PBR Rookie of the Year Eli Vastbinder was bucked off by Soul King in 4.67 seconds. Oklahoma’s momentum, however, continued to ride on. Cort McFadden dominated Rorschach for 86.75 points to give the Wildcatters a crucial 85.25-point lead.

In the penultimate frame of outs, Arizona looked to Keyshawn Whitehorse for much-needed points, while Clay Guiton was next up for Oklahoma. While Whitehorse was initially called for a buckoff on Exodus, the Ridge Riders’ Head Coach Colby Yates challenged the call, believing the bull fouled himself. Upon review, PBR’s officials concurred, awarding the team a re-ride. Oklahoma’s ride streak came to an end in the bottom of the fourth when Guiton was bucked off by Fierce’s Dirtnap in a close 6.53 seconds. Wildcatters Head Coach J.B. Mauney challenged the call, believing there was a foul, but PBR’s judging team did not agree. Along with receiving a no-score, Oklahoma lost its challenge for the remainder of the game.

The game then came down to the fifth frame, beginning with back-to-back outs for the Ridge Riders. Following Luciano De Castro’s 6.07-second buckoff aboard Wooderson, Arizona’s hopes of victory rested on Whitehorse attempting re-ride bull Blue Suede Shoes. Whitehorse fought hard to stay on all 8 seconds and, converting when his team needed it most, was marked 86.5 points, putting Arizona back out front by 1.25 points. As the last man to leave the chutes inside Paycom Center, Oklahoman Kase Hitt had the chance to win the game in walk-off form for the Wildcatters. Bursting from the chutes, Hitt appeared centered and on his way to a storybook ride, but he was unseated in a heartbreaking 7.04 seconds, delivering Arizona the win, 172.5-171.25.

The Oklahoma Wildcatters are now 1-1 in gameplay and will next take on the Austin Gamblers on the final day of their homestand. The Arizona Ridge Riders, who have a bye on Sunday, July 14, concluded their efforts in the Sooner State a perfect 2-0.
