Big Sky PBR draw decorated with PBR Teams riders looking to stay hot

Challenger Series set to welcome plenty of 5-on-5 regulars beginning Thursday night.

By James Youness

PUEBLO, Colo. – It might be the first of two bye weeks for the 2024 PBR Camping World Team Series circuit. But after getting an early look at the roster of competing riders for this weekend’s Big Sky PBR in in Big Sky, Montana, (July 18-20) …

… it’s rather clear several of the 5-on-5 tour’s talents are itching to stay active ahead of Week 2.

PBR’s Challenger Series will continue to attract some of the camaraderie-driven league’s depth riders as the summer slate surges on, no doubt, as the opportunities to compete against top-notch talent can only help guys looking to make a splash on PBR Teams itself.

But this weekend’s draw isn’t based around said “depth” or Reserve Roster riders, by any means.

With the likes of Boudreaux Campbell, Alan de Souza, Briggs Madsen, Keyshawn Whitehorse, Eduardo Aparecido and beyond set to give it a go during the three-day showcase up north, there are tons of PBR Teams regulars looking to stay loose.

Madsen, fresh off a spicy 2-for-2 showing for his Missouri Thunder last weekend at PBR Teams Wildcatter Days, might be missing his brother, Kade Madsen, who’s off on a religious retreat after shining big during his rookie campaign last summer. And while Ross Coleman and friends surely wish the younger of the Madsen brothers was around in 2024, they aren’t necessarily missing the 19-year-old, as his older brother has been holding down the fort so far.

Currently ranked No. 3 overall in the PBR Teams MVP standings thanks to a rank pair of conversions, he shined bright during the league’s first-ever Shootout Round, eventually recording a sick 90.25-point dance aboard Black Gold. Earning a spot in Sunday’s lineup, he improved to 2-for-2 via his 8 seconds of greatness atop Margin of Error, scored 89 points.

Sitting just three spots below Madsen in the PBR Teams MVP race, Keyshawn Whitehorse of the Arizona Ridge Riders will look to bring some momentum from his hot start in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, into Big Sky as well. Trailing Madsen by just 5.25 points, he helped his Ridge Riders establish themselves as one of the year three powerhouses, as the black and white squad exited Wildcatter Days as one of three undefeated teams at 2-0. Fresh off a No. 21-place finish during the 2024 premier series campaign, Whitehorse’s strength and determination were on display once again as he teamed up with Canadian sensation Nick Tetz in going 2-for-2 in Week 1. After beginning his weekend in the ride column, successfully dancing with Desperado for 87.5 points, he managed to stay perfect by besting Blue Suede Shoes for a game-clinching 86.5 points. Known to be one of the strongest riders on tour, he’ll look to stay locked in while ramping up his workload this weekend in Big Sky.

Adriano Salgado, of the Carolina Cowboys, has already shocked the industry once this summer. So, why not follow up his rank 93-point effort from last weekend in stunning fashion this time around? Turning in the fourth-best ride score in PBR Teams history during his HUGE conversion aboard the nearly-unrideable Flyin Wired, the 5-7 Brazilian talent has announced he he’s here to compete.

Both Mason Taylor of the Nashville Stampede and Felipe Furlan of the Missouri Thunder produced matching 2-for-3 efforts at Wildcatter Days and are primed to roll some momentum into Thursday night’s opening slate as well.

With tons of cash and plenty of bragging rights up for grabs beginning Thursday night, as the Big Sky PBR continues to remain one of the best-attended and viewed Challenger Series events of the year, this one’s going to be worth keeping an eye on!

PBR Teams Riders Competing at Big Sky PBR: Arizona Ridge Riders: Eduardo Aparecido, Luciano De Castro, Keyshawn Whitehorse Austin Gamblers: Ezekiel Mitchell, Guilherme Valleiras, Paulo Henrique da Silva Carolina Cowboys: Adilson Junior, Adriano Salgado, Dawson Branton Florida Freedom: Conner Halverson, Thiago Salgado, Trey Benton III Kansas City Outlaws: Marcus Mast, Wyatt Rogers Missouri Thunder: Andy Bohl, Boudreaux Campbell, Briggs Madsen, Felipe Furlan, Paulo Eduardo Rossetto Nashville Stampede: Alan de Souza, Andrei Scoparo, Mason Taylor New York Mavericks: Vitor Losnake Oklahoma Wildcatters: Dustin Herman, Hagen Braswell Texas Rattlers: Brady Fielder, Brady Oleson, Jesse Petri, Marcelo Procopio Pereira, Qynn Andersen Both from a pure numbers game and looking at which riders are there representing their respective units, the Missouri Thunder and Texas Rattlers have the most to gain this weekend with five cowboys attending from each squad.

With starting lineup-caliber talent including Boudreaux Campbell, Felipe Furlan, Briggs Madsen and Paulo Eduardo Rossetto set to give it a go during the three-day showcase, it’s very likely Ross Coleman and General Manager Luke Snyder will be tuned in for this one, if not watching on in-person.

As far as Cody Lambert’s guys in Brady Fielder, Brady Oleson, Jesse Petri and Marcelo Procopio Pereira go, all of whom saw action last weekend inside Paycom Center, the defending 2023 PBR Teams Champion representatives have plenty to improve on after exiting Week 1 with a 1-1 record courtesy of just three scores across two games.

After beginning their inaugural PBR Camping World Team Series season with an unfortunate 0-3 record, the New York Mavericks sent only Vitor Losnake to get in on the fun. We can only assume Head Coach Kody Lostroh has the rest of the unit either resting up or competing in other Challenger Series events this weekend.
