2022 PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz wins Czar Lake Bullarama

Arizona Ridge Riders' standout parlays PBR Teams success into big win up north.

By Kacie Albert

CZAR, Alta. – On Friday night in Czar, Alberta, Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) inched closer to his second PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Championship, going a perfect 2-for-2 to win the Touring Pro Division’s Czar Lake Bullarama.

Tetz, who rides for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams League, first struck in Round 1 when he posted what would tie for the fourth-best score, marked 80.5 points atop Nasty Breath (Foley Bucking Bulls).

The reserved Calgarian then readied to go head-to-head with Ain’t About Fame (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) in the championship round. Nodding with confidence, Tetz remained in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete reaching the requisite 8 with ease. Awarded an event-best 88 points, the score won Tetz both the round and overall event.

Courtesy of a double entry, Tetz also finished sixth compliments of a 72.5-point ride on Twist Of Something (Thompson Rodeo Livestock).

Tetz left the Czar Lake Rodeo Ground having earned a combined 141.5 national points. While he remained No. 2 in the standings, he decimated No. 1 Cody Coverchuk’s (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) lead from 264.5 points to 123 points.

Should Tetz continue his climb up the standings and win the 2024 title, and accompanying $100,000 bonus, he would become just the fourth multi-time title winner in Canadian history.

Coverchuk was shutout at the Czar Lake Bullarama. He was bucked off by Black Jack (Skori Bucking Bulls) in 5.54 seconds in Round 1, and Whiskey Moon (Skori Bucking Bulls) in a similar 5.54 seconds in the final round.

Returning to the top of the leaderboard, three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) was second.

Roy bested Upstairs Basement (Shay Marks) for a Round 1 best 83.5 points to garner 78 Canadian points.

On the hunt for his unprecedented fourth PBR Canada Championship, Roy rose from No. 13 to No. 10 in the standings. Roy now trails No. 1 Coverchuk by 664 points.

In another double entry, Wyatt Gleeson (Sundre, Alberta) finished both third and seventh to net 65 national points.

Gleeson’s bronze showing was earned via an 83-point effort on Mousetache Man (Shay Marks) in Round 1, while his seventh-place finish was courtesy of a 70-point ride on Red Dawn (Wilson Rodeo) in the opening round.

In the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, Gleeson rose from No. 17 to No. 14.

Wade Marshall (Invercargill, New Zealand) parlayed an 82-point ride on Stray Bucks (Shay Marks) into a fourth-place result. Marshall garnered 38 national points, climbing from No. 43 to No. 28 in the Canadian standings.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan). Fresh off his Cup Series victory the day prior in Kelowna, British Columbia, Parsonage covered Smooth Criminal (Shay Marks) for 80.5 points in the opening round, earning 32.5 national points.

Seeking his first PBR Canada Championship this November, Parsonage overtook the No. 3 rank in Canada, propelled within 535.84 points of No. 1 Coverchuk.

In the bull pen, Nobody (Eno Bucking Bulls) turned heads, crowned the Bull of the Event. Bucking in the championship round, the powerful animal athlete was marked an unrivaled 45 points for his 2.13 seconds of work with Roy.

The 2024 PBR Canada season continues on Thursday, July 25 with the Touring Pro Division’s McDonald’s Colby Cave Memorial PBR Classic in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. Action at the North Battleford Access Communications Center begins at 7:00 p.m. CST.
