FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 66th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Lucas Martins Costa (Frutal, Brazil) took home the event buckle after a flawless 2-for-2 performance.
In Round 1, the Brazilian roared out of the chutes on Rafter H 1511 (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock) for 83.5 points.
Sitting in third heading into the final round, Costa pushed to the top of the leaderboard after riding Boundin Billy (Blue Ridge Bucking Bulls/M&B) for a clutch 85 points.
The event victory garnered Costa a critical 52 Challenger Global points.
The only other rider to record two qualified rides on the evening was Joao Henrique Lucas (Bastos, Brazil), who finished second.
A staple of late at the weekly event, Lucas covered Rafter H 1201 (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock) for 81 points in Round 1.
Staying locked in, the Brazilian cowboy rocketed out of the gate in Round 2 aboard Natural (Blue Ridge/Risen Cattle Co) for 85.5 points to catapult up the event standings.
The silver finish earned Lucas 42.5 Challenger Global points.
In third place was Qynn Andersen (Koumala, Queensland, Australia).
After bucking off Flat Top (Broken Arrow S Ranch/Sutton Ranch) in 2.96 seconds in Round 1, the rider for the 2023 PBR Teams Champion Texas Rattlers rebounded, riding Krampus (Blue Ridge Bucking Bulls/M&B) for an event-high, round-winning 87 points to leap onto the podium.
The Australian cowboy left Cowtown Coliseum with a crucial 26 Challenger Global points.
Finishing fourth was Ednelio Almeida (Cacoal, Brazil).
The Brazilian looked to get off to a strong start on Black Slope (Broken Arrow S Ranch/Sutton Ranch) but was unseated after 2.08 seconds.
Undeterred, he proved his mettle in the final round, thundering out of the chutes on Little Bit Crazy (Blue Ridge/Risen Cattle Co) for 86 points.
Almeida returned home with 20 Challenger Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Tevin Weston (Houston, Texas), who also went 1-for-2.
The Lone Star State cowboy bounced back after bucking off Rafter H 277 (Rafter H Rodeo Livestock) in 4.27 seconds in the opening round to top Barnett Right-Away (Cannon Cattle Co) for 85.5 points in Round 2.
The Texan netted 16.5 Challenger Global points for his efforts Thursday evening.
Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings. The Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth on the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.
In the bull pen, Mr. Demon (Broken Arrow S Ranch/Sutton Ranch) was marked 44.5 points for his first-round buckoff of Bruno Roberto (Restinga, Brazil) to win the Bull of the Event title.
