FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 65th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, Lance Lara (Snook, Texas) took home the event buckle courtesy of an impressive 90-point ride in his final out.
After bucking off Saunder’s Test Flight (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) in the opening round in 2.11 seconds, Lara rebounded to top Hard Rock (Braun Bucking Bulls) for a monstrous, event-high 90 points to seize the lead in Round 2.
The event win netted the Texan a critical 47 Challenger Global points.
Joao Henrique Lucas (Bastos, Brazil) and Arisson Pereira (Ivate, Brazil) both went 1-for-2 to split second place.
Both riders failed to make the 8 in Round 1, as Lucas bucked off Maniac (Universal Pro Rodeo/Delmas/Williams) in 2.78 seconds while his fellow countryman lost the rope after a heartbreaking 7.32 seconds aboard Spider Man (7.32 seconds).
However, both riders rebounded, with Lucas topping CMSR 625 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) for 86 points and Pereira riding CMSR 014 (Stockyards Pro Rodeo) matching him in Round 2, earning both Brazilian cowboys a spot on the podium.
The silver finish garnered Lucas and Pereira 27.5 Challenger Global points.
In fourth place was Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil).
Similar to the cowboys above him in the standings, Pereira had to battle back after being unseated in the opening round, as Nerve Damage (Universal Pro Rodeo/Delmas/Williams) bested him in 4.08 seconds.
Undeterred, the veteran stormed out of the chutes on Hammered Again (Campbell Cattle Co/Cannon Cattle Co) in the final round for 84 points to catapult up the leaderboard.
The second-round ride earned Pereira 18 Challenger Global points.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Zeke Martinez (Laredo, Texas).
The Texan got out to an early lead by riding Frank (Campbell Cattle Co) for 83.5 points in Round 1 but was dispatched by Yay Yay (Campbell Cattle Co) in a thrilling 7.78 seconds in Round 2.
Martinez returned home with 21 Challenger Global points.
Challenger Global points contribute to the Challenger Global Standings and the Top 40 at the end of the season compete in the PBR Challenger Series Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada, held alongside the PBR Teams Championship. A select number of riders from the top of the 2024 Challenger Global Standings will receive a berth to the elite 2025 Unleash The Beast.
In the bull pen, Elkins 038 (Philip Elkins) and Hard Rock were both marked 40 points for their second-round outs to split the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, June 27. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
