FORT WORTH, Texas – There have been more than 20 Championship Sunday showdowns scattered throughout the 2024 premier series season …
… But none will compare to the final Sunday slate inside AT&T Stadium Sunday, May 19 as the PBR prepares to not only crown the 2024 PBR World Champion but honor the tour’s Rookie of the Year and overall event champion come night’s end.
And with the tour’s No. 1-ranked Cassio Dias enduring an uncharacteristic 0-for-2 performance as he continues to deal with some back complications, No. 2 John Crimber finds himself just 447.5 UTB points back from the skilled Brazilian.
Turning in a quality 88-point strike aboard Skippy in night one’s opening go, he was able to earn 40 UTB points despite ending the slate ranked tenth on the event leaderboard.
But he’ll need to kick things up a notch if he wants to see his name on the prized Jerome Robinson Cup.
Knowing there are a possible 578 UTB points remaining for any one rider, a scenario definitely exists where Crimber could walk away from this thing with the coveted gold buckle.
But in order to fulfill the prophecy, he’d need to not only win the aggregate, but at least one of two remaining rounds, if not both, depending on where Dias finishes on the overall leaderboard.
At the same time, if Crimber were to buck off his third-round bull and Dias were to win the round and/or finish within the Top 4 in the overall event aggregate, the Kansas City Outlaws product will have officially clinched his first world title.
Looking smooth through a majority of his Round 1 attempt against Mike’s Motive, he was tossed to the dirt in 7.64 seconds. Which wasn’t a concern for a rider who’s proven he’s more than capable of bouncing back.
But seeing the talent grab at his banged-up back while slightly limping off the dirt, we confirmed he’s both still ailing (which, if you saw the extent of his wreck last week, you’ll understand why) and that he’s easily one of, if not the, toughest rider on tour.
Which makes all of the sense in the world given his PBR Teams coach is none other than J.W. Hart, the original Iron Man. But for as effective and inspirational Hart and his work of art has been over the years, you can’t teach toughness.
That’s been engrained in the Brazilian for some 22 years now.
As far as the World Finals event title itself goes, No. 9 Thiago Salgado sits atop the Championship leaderboard after turning in a rank 90-pointer during Saturday’s second round.

Somehow just the second 90-pointer through the opening eight rounds of action (six, if you don’t count Ride For Redemption sessions), Salgado got the Monster Energy logo up on the big board for the first time inside AT&T Stadium Saturday en route to producing his highest-scored ride of the season.
Just a quarter of a point (.25) behind in the event aggregate, Australian sensation No. 8 Brady Fielder ripped off a quality 89.75-point effort to get some momentum rolling of his own.
Putting on a show for his Texas Rattlers supporters, the Chess.com star returns to action Sunday via his matchup against Top Dollar, while Salgado prepares to do battle with Night Hawk.
Dias has accepted a dance with a familiar friend in Ricky Vaughn, while Crimber opted into a showdown with Big Bank.
With $350,000 up for grabs to whoever is able to walk out of Jerry World atop the event standings, and five other riders already posting flashy 89-point efforts, to say these last two rounds will be an old-fashioned Western shootout would very much be an understatement.
