Roster announced for $55,000 Rodeo Corpus Christi Division Youth Showcase May 7 at American Bank Center

59 athletes from Texas qualify to compete May 7!

By Kyle Jones

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance) has announced the 88 youth athletes who will compete at the CEAT Specialty Rodeo Corpus Christi Division Youth (DY) Showcase event on May 7. The event will be held at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Rodeo Corpus Christi has been chosen as the location for the second WCRA Division Youth Showcase event for the 2024 series, most recently hosted in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The event offers a purse of $55,000, ensuring that each Champion will receive a minimum of $2,000. This presents an exceptional opportunity for emerging rodeo athletes to exhibit their talents and vie for a significant prize.

The DY Showcase will crown Champions in each of the 11 disciplines: team roping heading, team roping heeling, steer wrestling, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, pole bending, goat tying, breakaway roping, barrel racing, and bull riding. All athletes competing at the DY Showcase will earn double points towards the 2024 Division Youth leaderboard.

Amy Ohrt, a Texas native from Victoria, will demonstrate her athletic versatility by competing in pole bending, breakaway roping, and goat tying events.

In July 2023, Ohrt was crowned the 2023 World Championship Junior Rodeo (WCJR) All-Around Cowgirl. In November 2023, she also won the breakaway roping and goat-tying titles at the Cowtown DY Showcase. Ohrt holds the title of the most successful cowgirl in WCRA DY, with over $22,600 in earnings.

The intense WCRA DY leaderboard has filtered out the best of the best, and only the Top 65 timed event athletes and Top 24 rough stock athletes have earned the right to battle for the coveted title of WCRA DY Showcase Champion.

The Rodeo Corpus Christi DY Showcase will feature the talents of 59 skilled youth athletes hailing from Texas. The roster of competitors listed below represents the very best of the Texas rodeo scene:
