FORT WORTH, Texas – At the 60th iteration of the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Stockyards Showcase inside the iconic Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas, home of the PBR World Finals Elimination Rounds and Ride for Redemption, John Crimber (Decatur, Texas) took home the event buckle courtesy of a clutch Round 1 ride.
Currently ranked No. 2 on the elite Unleash The Beast, Crimber rocketed out of the chutes for an event-high 85.5 points aboard Head Honcho (Pickett Pro Rodeo) in the opening round to take an early lead.
While he was unable to get out of the gate in the final round on Rack Em (Carr Pro Rodeo), the 18-year-old phenom had done enough to take home his sixth Stockyards Showcase title since he began competing with the PBR in August of 2023.
The victory netted Crimber a crucial 46 Velocity Global points, moving him to No. 35 in the Velocity Global Standings and currently qualifying him for the Velocity Tour Finals in Corpus Christi, Texas, with just two events left for riders to earn Velocity Global points.
In second place was Lane Vaughan (Klamath Falls, Oregon), who went 1-for-2.
Sitting right on Crimber’s spurs after an 84.5-point showing on Loggin Airtime (JD Nix Rodeo Co.) in Round 1, Vaughan shot out of the gates on Smokey (Carr Pro Rodeo) in Round 2 looking to steal the title but was bucked off after 3.70 seconds.
The silver finish earned the Oregonian cowboy 33 Velocity Global points.
Grayson Cole (New Ringgold, Pennsylvania) and Qynn Andersen (Koumala, Queensland, Australia) tied for third, a half-point behind Vaughan.
Paired with Leader (Carr Pro Rodeo) in Round 1, Cole sat tall for 84 points.
Next sharing a chute with Elkins 737 (Philip Elkins), the Pennsylvanian attempted to catapult up the leaderboard but was dispatched by the powerful bovine competitor after 4.65 seconds.
Andersen also converted in the first round, covering Elkins 093 (Philip Elkins) for 84 points before being unseated by JAG Metals Grand Theft (D&H Cattle Co./Philip Elkins) in 2.03 seconds in the final round.
Rounding out the Top 5 was Stockyards Showcase staple Jean Fernandes Pereira (Crixas, Brazil).
Entering the night having earned 264.33 Velocity Global points at the weekly event, the Brazilian thundered out of the gates atop Loaded (Pickett Pro Rodeo) for 82.5 points in Round 1.
Looking for his second-straight Showcase title, Pereira briefly sat tall on Outlaw (Pickett Pro Rodeo) but was bucked off after 1.86 seconds.
The fifth-place finish garnered Pereira 15 Velocity Global points, securing his spot at the PBR World Finals Ride for Redemption should he not qualify for the World Finals via another route.
The two remaining qualifiers via the Stockyards Showcase are Lucas Fideles Souza (Barnstable, Massachusetts) and Leandro Zampollo (Pirassununga, Brazil), the seventh pick in the 2024 PBR Teams Expansion Draft by the New York Mavericks of the separate PBR Camping World Team Series.
Velocity Global points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.
In the bull pen, Bison (JD Nix Rodeo Co.), Hot Wheels (Carr Pro Rodeo) and Hoof Stock Genetics Mud Train (Canyon Oaks/JD Nix) were all marked 43 points for their buckoffs Thursday evening to split the Bull of the Event title.
The PBR Stockyards Showcase returns on Thursday, May 23, to begin the PBR Challenger Series season. Action inside Cowtown Coliseum will get underway at 7:30 p.m. CT.
PBR RidePass on Pluto TV will offer re-airs and on-demand replays of every PBR Stockyards Showcase event. PBR RidePass is available on desktops, laptops and mobile devices via www.pluto.tv. Click here for on-demand PBR programming.
