PBR returns to Springfield, Missouri for Thunder Days Aug. 30–Sept. 1

Missouri Thunder’s homestand marks PBR’s return to Springfield for first time since 2019.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The PBR (Professional Bull Riders) announced the original extreme sport will be returning to Springfield, Missouri, at Great Southern Bank Arena during the 2024 Labor Day weekend for PBR Thunder Days, the homestand of the Bass Pro Shop-owned Missouri Thunder in the PBR Camping World Team Series.

Thunder Days, set to take place August 30–September 1, is the first event in Springfield for PBR Teams, an elite league that introduced a team dynamic to the traditionally individual sport of bull riding through five-on-five bull riding games. PBR Teams builds on the existing structure of professional bull riding with the same basic rules for judging and scoring qualified 8-second bull rides while making the sport more accessible, understandable and relatable to all fans.

Tickets for the three-day event can be purchased today at PBR.com. The venue will launch an exclusive, pre-sale event on Monday, March 11th, before tickets become available to the general public on Friday, March 15th. Fans will be able to purchase tickets in person at the Great Southern Bank Arena box office, online at PBR.com or Ticketmaster.com, and by calling PBR Customer Service at 1-800-732-1727.

The three-day event at GSB Arena marks PBR’s first stop in Springfield since September 2019, when the separate individual series bucked into Missouri. Then in his first full season on the top individual tour, two-time PBR World Champion Jose Vitor Leme stole the show, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the event buckle.

One of the original eight founding teams, the Thunder made a statement at the 2023 PBR Teams Championship in Las Vegas last November, becoming the first team in league history to win both Last Chance Games to advance to their first Semifinals in team history. While they ran out of steam and finished the tournament fourth, the Thunder returns a young and dynamic core in 2024 featuring Felipe Furlan and Paulo Eduardo Rossetto, who are both under the age of 25 and currently competing on the PBR’s elite Unleash The Beast.

In addition, the team will be headlined by 2020 PBR Rookie of the Year Boudreaux Campbell, whom the Thunder acquired from the Carolina Cowboys this offseason. Campbell went 5-for-18 (27.8%) for the Cowboys during the 2023 season and the Crockett, Texas, native is currently ranked inside the Top 20 of the Unleash The Beast standings.

“As a former PBR athlete and Missouri native who has competed inside GSB Arena, I am excited we’re bringing the Missouri Thunder team to the heart of Bass Pro Shops’ hometown for our 2024 homestand,” said Missouri Thunder General Manager Luke Snyder. “The Team Series format has captivated audiences across the country. The crowd energy in Springfield should be off the charts. We welcome current and new bull riding fans alike to celebrate Labor Day weekend with us on the dirt, root for your Thunder team, and experience all the action in store at 2024 Thunder Days.”

Snyder, a PBR Ring of Honor and 2014 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee, coaches the team alongside fellow PBR Ring of Honor member Ross Coleman, who recorded more than 400 rides on the PBR’s premier series during his illustrious career.

The Thunder had competed in Ridgedale, Missouri, for the league’s first two seasons, before making the move to the home of Bass Pro Shops in Springfield.

In addition to the revamped action on the dirt, fans in attendance at PBR Teams’ events are brought a new immersive experience, including the PBR’s largest-ever main video board, featuring almost 5 million individual LEDs and stretching 55 feet wide by 30 feet tall. Events also feature nearly 300 individual lighting elements and 56-line array speakers with eight subwoofers, ensuring there will not be a bad seat in Great Southern Bank Arena Labor Day weekend.
